Just Need Some Reassurance
« on: December 27, 2010, 12:02:29 pm »
My story goes exactly like a lot of others I am sure you guys have heard a million times before and maybe I just need some reassurance but here goes anyway hoping someone will respond.  About a week ago I met a girl from the internet and she ended up performing oral sex on me after we had kissed for quite a while.  The oral lasted for about 30 minutes after which time she stopped.  To my recollection there was no blood involved but it was dark and I can't be entirely sure.  However when we were kissing I didn't taste any blood so I can't imagine there was any involved.

About 6 days after the incident I started having minor headaches and today it seems to be a bit more intense in terms of the headache.  I also think my armpits were a bit sore where apparently there are some lymph glands.  I think my mind is starting to play tricks on me so hopefully a response will ease those fears.

Do I even need to worry or test over this one time event?

You never had an exposure and don't need testing for HIV.

xmas,

Getting a blowjob is absolutely not a risk for hiv infection, regardless of what sort of details you can think of to come up with. Unless you're in the habit of repeatedly punching a person in the mouth before they blow you, there could not possibly be enough blood present to worry about.

NO RISK.

Here's what you need to know in order to remain hiv negative:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER A BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks Ann and Rod,

This was my only possibility of exposure (non exposure as the case seems to be) after being in a monogamous relationship for over 10 years.  Given that it is not a risk I will attempt to put this out of my thoughts and do a test at 3 months for my own peace of mind only.  Like you said there are other STD's that are more easily transmitted and I will do all of those when I go at 3 months also.  I can't imagine I will be having any more relations with anyone else between now and March when I do go to get tested.

Thanks again for the reassurance,

Well whether you think you're going to be having relations with anyone else between now and March, sometimes life holds surprises. Just always remember and use a condom everytime for vaginal and anal intercourse and you will be well protected as far as sexual transmission of HIV is concerned.

Going back out into the world of dating after a long relationship has its own special challenges. Good luck to you.

You weren't at risk so a negative test result is a slam dunk for you and something that is strictly for your peace of mind.

Thank you Andy,

Your response was much appreciated.

I will admit that going back out into the world of dating in this era is terrifying to say the least when you have always had one person and not a care in the world in terms of any possibility of HIV or any of the other nasties out there.

Christmas,

Provided you use in date quality latex condoms and water based lubricants whenever you have anal or vaginal sex, there's no need to be worried about HIV or most other STDs for that matter.

Thanks Matty.  I think my next goal in life is to get myself into another monogamous relationship and no more meeting random people from the internet and I will use condoms until such time that that occurs :)

Good luck with that plan. And even when you have met someone with whom you have something going, condoms are still a must until you both decide to be in a securely monogamous relationship and have reliably tested negative together.

Cheers.

Thanks again everyone,

If there is no possibility I will test positive given this one exposure I think I will try to ignore whatever "symptoms" I think I may be experiencing and move on with my life.  I have two kids that need to be the center of my attention not unjustified worrying  :)

Well if you continue to have "symptoms," then see your doctor about them. Whatever is causing them is NOT HIV, but it's still good to check out any persistent symptoms to find out what's causing them.

Just one quick add on to my question as I don't know if this changes anything but if I am not circumsized does that change any of the responses I have been given?  Or am I still 100% guaranteed a negative result given that my only possible exposure was what I mentioned in my first post?

Thanks again,

xmas,

Getting a blowjob is absolutely NOT a risk for hiv infection whether or not you are circumcised.

You have not had a risk for hiv infection, therefore you can count on a negative result if you decide to test.

One more question.  Today I experienced something I have never experienced before.  I had this burning sensation in my feet all day.  I tried removing my shoes but that did not help.  When I finally got home from work I took off my shoes and my socks and that seemed to help expect now it is a few hours later and they are burning again so I Googled it like everyone tends to do for all things these days.  Well one of the things in came back with was peripheral neuropathy which according to one of the doctors on The Body can be an early or late sign of HIV infection.  This of course has me freaked out again because like I said I have never experienced anything like this before.  Are the experts on here completely convinced that I have nothing to worry about in regard to HIV with the experience I have outlined?  Sorry to be back.  I really did mean to stay away but with the burning feet I needed to investigate it a bit.

xmas,

You know what? You kissed a woman and she sucked your dick. Get over it already. Neither one of these activities is a risk for hiv infection. Your burning feet have nothing to do with a virus you cannot possibly have from this incident.

If you insist on continuing to post over this NO RISK situation, you WILL be given that time out Rodney warned you about.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS YOUR LAST WARNING!!!

Sorry.  Thanks everyone for your help.  This was a great wake up call.  I won't be back before my three months and then only to report on my results and hopefully help someone else out there like me who might be worrying needlessly.

Thanks again,

You're welcome. And just make sure now and in the coming year to always be using condoms everytime for anal or vaginal intercourse. As long as you do that you will be well protected against the sexual transmission of HIV.

Cheers.

Just one quick question.  Can I assume any symptoms I may be experiencing are absolutely, without question, not HIV related?

xmas,

Why would your symptoms have anything to do with hiv when you have NOT been at risk for hiv infection? We've told you this repeatedly.

If you continue to feel unwell, see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv.

I'm giving you that time out you've been warned about. Do not attempt to create a new account to get around your time out because if you do, you will be permanently banned.
