Could I Be Infected? - Scared
« on: July 11, 2013, 12:01:01 pm »
I've been monogamous for 28 years.  Two weeks ago I, stupidly, met a girl and had sex.  She first gave me oral, unprotected, but from what I've read on here there is no risk involved with that.  We moved to vaginal sex and I wore a condom.  The condom did not break, but during intercourse started sliding up my penis (not quite halfway up).  We stopped and I pulled it back down.  We then finished. But when I pulled out the condom slid off my penis as I pulled out, leaving it halfway in and halfway out of her vagina (didn't slide completely off until I was all the way out).  So I assume that it slipped up a little during ejaculation and then finished coming off when I pulled out.  The next day I had a tingling sensation in my penis and my prostate felt swollen (pressure).  I started taking some Bactrim that I had been prescribed months earlier for an entirely different infection.  I had 3 days worth and at the end of three days I went to a doctor and was given a urine test and a 7 day prescription of Doxycycline.  The unrine sample came back negative.  I finished the full 7 days of Doxycycline three days ago and have since felt a swelling in my throat (not really a sore throat, just an uneasy swelling feeling, doesn't hurt when I swallow). I've had a very loose stool and have generally felt "uneasy" tingling feeling all over.  It feels a little better today, but was wondering if there was any chance, with the condom sliding up and me sliding it back down, that I could have contracted something?  It never came completely off until I pulled out after ejaculating, and even then it came out with my penis but slipped off and half of it stayed in. I immediately whiped down with a towel. I have no way of contacting her.  It's been two weeks exactly and I'm wondering what was my chance of exposure?

rolamc,

Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection.

Protected intercourse is just that - protected against hiv. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

A slipped condom isn't a problem when it slips off during withdrawal, which yours obviously did. Slipping partially down during the act isn't an hiv risk either as hiv is not transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, and the skin on the shaft of your penis is no different to the skin elsewhere on your body. What matters is if the head of the penis is covered and yours was.

You did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV SPECIFICALLY FOLLOWING A BLOWJOB OR PROTECTED INTERCOURSE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
