Thanksgiving Table
« on: November 24, 2010, 06:57:07 pm »
Thanksgiving will be at our house this year (all holidays rotate with DFs family--this year we do Thanksgiving.)
There will be 10 people in total.

Menu:

Squash soup  (See AMG Fundraising Cookbook Thread)
Roasted Butter Herb Turkey
String Beans with Shallots
Yellow Beats w/ vinaigrette
Corn Bread Stuffing
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Banana-Yam Casserole  (we've never done this one before--should be interesting)

Dessert--DFs sister isn't saying, it's a "surprise"

I'm already drooling.   :P

Anyone else hosting Thanksgiving?

RAB   ;D

Impressive spreads!
I have only one American friend here, and he's bahhumbug about holidays. A few times I've gotten it together for a turkey.  Fresh, or frozen from Turkey, they cost an arm and a leg.  I think they are loss leaders in the US - cheaper to buy then they are to produce?  21 CH a kilo here for a small bird 5 kilo thats 100 CHF, or 100 USD.  For a 11-12 pound bird.

I think I'll roast a chicken after work and watch a classic film.

I am making my world famous sweet potato pie with apple/cinnamon/nutmeg/brown&white sugar blend and bringing it as a take along.

I will also take my pre-recorded culinary raves complete with lip smacking sounds for my friend, who will inevitably ask while I am eating "Well how is the meal?  Do you like it?"  I will just reach over and press the "play button".   :D

Happy Thanksgiving Pumpkinos and Pumpkinas!   ;D

I'm going to Mom's for a standard, delicious turkey dinner.  I'm bringing deviled eggs for an appetizer (my favorite!) and roasted root vegetables for the meal.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Wow Meech,
I thought turkeys were expensive in Costa Rica, but they are half the price you would pay!
A 20 pound bird costs $90.00.... We picked up one that size for $6.00 this week....

This morning I have lots of meat to strip off bones and put away.
If only our dogs were with us!

Happy shopping day.
