Unbiased assesment please.
« on: July 19, 2009, 08:07:29 am »

Hello,

I have a few enquiries in reference to HIV transmission. I have, for the last year and a half indulged in sexworkers, regretfully. Originally from the UK, I am tentatively based in a developing nation within South East Asia, where HIV prevalence is substantial. I'm Heterosexual.

Over the course of this last yr, I have visited young girls at spas, where I have always indulged in protected vaginal & unprotected blowjobs. Asides from this I have often fingered the working girls I've been with. I am uncircumcised. I always bring my own condoms & lubrication. And now I find myself in a sort of Catch22, probably much deserved.

The reason I come to you only now within this timeline, is because I have succumbed to symptoms that can be HIV specific, I take vitamin C regularly, yet my gums bleed everymorning whilst brushing; My eyes are at some point during the day always red; lately the veins on my wrists are much more pronounced and visible; There are dark patches under my eyes regardless of the fact that I have very regular sleeping habits; My faeces is usually quite hard for the last month or so; I have a faint rash on my trunks, barely visible but like red patches much like the one seen in ARS, and lastly I itch from time to time in random areas of my body from time to time.

1st;
Over the course of my visits to these girls I would never physically inspect my condom after the deed was done, merely visually observe it to see if it looked intact. On some occasions I would check physically but not all, now in a state of trying to recall all of my encounters, I am not able to recall every single visit over the course of the last year; hence leading me to a state of panic in which I am not to sure if a broken condom would stand out in my terms of my memories. I don’t ever recall seeing a hula skirt around my penis, thus is it safe to assume that I never witnessed a breakage? (I do not drink alcoho everl)

2nd;
My most recent encounter was with a working girl who had a reputation of doing drugs and indulging within irresponsible sexual acts. There was a suspicion amongst some that she was infected with STD or even worse HIV that I only came to know off after the encounter unfortunately. I had protected intercourse with her, as well as an unprotected blowjob. Now the worry I have here is not the act, it’s the fact that I made a very stupid mistake of not bringing my own condoms. She provided me with a condom (Durex, “together”) which unfortunately I did not check expiry of, I used the condom, and towards the end it looked as it had broken just at the tip, but when I stretched it with my fingers, it was definitely intact. All this, has made me doubt the quality of that condom I used, hence im worried about the risk of transmission here granted she apparently has a reputation of being infected & a junkie.

3rd;
After that most recent scare, I stopped going to prostitutes. Instead I visited massage parlors where I settled for only foreplay (handjob, and me fingering the girls); 3 weeks ago I was extremely careless mistake, I went in for a massage, and things heated up. I have had a bad habit since young, to bit the skin around my nails (above & around my cuticles), my right middle finger that day, I had been biting, and there was an open cut, deep enough that I could see the red layers under your skin above my cuticle, and even though it was not bleeding, it was exposed (i.e. no scab, and relatively fresh as I had bitten it earlier that morning itself), I fingered this girl quite rigorously with this finger, and when I pulled out, I felt a stinging feeling on that cut, which means that the salt content had successfully reached my nerve endings, which could possibly suggest that HIV or any STD would have reached my mainstream if she was infected via this wound;  Is this a valid fear of transmission within my mind?

What are my chances of being infected after you have reviewed my history Anne, or Andy, or RapidRod, your prognosis would be most appreciated. An open cut is like a highway to HIV (regardless of it being fragile), perhaps transmission could’ve occurred whilst my finger was inside of her, correct?

Thank you in advance, for taking the time to read through this, and providing me with valid advice in this matter. Good Day, Morris.

It's not an HIV concern you use protection and oral sex is not a risk. See a doctor for your symptoms if you are concerned.

Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission. By using them it doesn't matter if the person you are with is HIV+. Condoms do their job very well.

Other STDs are much easier to acquire so we always advise anyone who is sexually active to regularly have a full STD panel done. That means at least once a year.

None of the symptoms you are concerned about are in any way suggestive specifically of HIV.

We can't do any diagnosing here so if your symptoms persist that's something to discuss with your doctor.

Nothing you have presented suggests to me that yours is an HIV problem.

Cheers.

I'm substantially worried about the act of fingering, in which I felt the open wound sting;

HIV is not transmitted by fingering, oral sex, masturbation, kissing, sharing drinks or tooth brushes.

Worry if you want to but there's no basis for it whatsoever in HIV science.

Guys,
I am not contesting your advice, believe me I appreciate your assesment. However doesnt the fact that I had an open wound that exposed my lower layers of my skin on my middle finger, and there was no scab or anything as such on it yet either, I specifically remembering feeling a stinging feeling when I pulled my finger out of her, doesnt this mean something got into my bloodstream?

Morris,

There have been hundreds of thousands of incidents of fingering with a cut and yet not one single person ever ended up hiv positive through fingering.

Hiv can only latch onto a very few, very specific cell types. These types of cells are not found in shallow cuts. The human body very efficiently seals off small cuts within a very short time of the cut appearing and nothing would have gotten into your bloodstream.

The cells that hiv CAN infect are found in your urethra (where you pee/cum from) the inside of the foreskin and the inside of the anus. This is why all you need to do to protect yourself from hiv is to use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER ANYTHING YOU BRING TO US, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

You're worrying needlessly. If you cannot bring yourself to believe us, go test and collect your negative result. However, you will not be permitted to use this website to rehash this NO RISK situation.

Thank you Ann.

I'm not rehashing these no-risk situations, I'm merely trying to gauge a scientific understanding as to why it wouldnt be viable for HIV transmission when I had a fresh open cut on my middle finger.

Why did that cut sting when I pulled my finger out? Is that not because of salt content reaching my nerve endings? Please correct me if I am wrong?

Also Ann & Andy did you guys read other queries within this post? Because you havent shed any insight on certain aspects?

Morris,

NOTHING you brought to us was a risk for hiv infection. NOTHING. Protected intercourse is not a risk. Getting a blowjob, with or without a condom, is not a risk. Fingering is not a risk. NO RISK!

Yes, stinging in your finger has nothing to do with your bloodstream and everything to do with nerve endings. FINGERING IS NOT A RISK EVEN WHEN YOUR FINGER STINGS!

Keep going on about these NO RISK activities and you'll be given a time out. If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Ann,

Im suffering these unexplained symptoms at this point which have led me to believe that perhaps during my one of protected encounters I may have had a condom rupture and not known bout it, and got infected in the process;

I have an increasing darkness under my eyes, even though I sleep early everynight.
I feel my face has definitely started to look more sunken
I from time to time, feel urges to scratch myself in different areas of my body, and before I scratch I always see a red patch like stain there.
There's been an increase in dryness on skin.
My teeth almost always bleed when I brush them even though I take vit c everyday.

How else would these symptoms have come forth altogether if these arent manifestations of HIV?

I doubt that's a hard and fast rule right Rapidrod?

I mean Im sure no one can say with 100% surety that all condoms only break in such an obvious manner that people would visually see it so, I mean we live in shades of greys, not black & white, im sure there are people who have been infected via an unnoticed condom rupture, and simply no ones believes them.

You're just coming back repeatedly with more doubts and what ifs. You've gotten a solid evaluation of your situation.

You were not at risk. You have no cause for further concern about HIV at this point. If you have symptoms that concern you that is something to discuss with your doctor.

I am going to give you the 28 day Time Out which Ann warned you about. You need to know that if you try to get around it by creating a new name for yourself, you will be immediately banned from the site.

Stop with the needless worrying and get on with your life.
