Unprotected vaginal intercourse is definitely high risk behavior. It is possible that you will have gotten by safely but the only way to know for sure is by getting tested. For a conclusive negative result you need to get tested at 3 months after the most recent unsafe incident.

For future reference you can have intercourse with anyone you want to, but you need to do it the safer way. That means using a condom everytime without exception. It doesn't matter how great the guy looks or how well you think you know about him and his history. A condom is a must. By doing that it won't matter if he's HIV positive because condoms provide very effective protection against transmission.

You can test initially at 6 weeks. If you test negative at that point there is a good likelihood that you will continue to test negative. Good luck with your test results.

Thank you for replying. If i get tested 10 weeks after the exposure, will i have to get tested again after 2 weeks?

Popi,

You should - even though if you get a negative result at ten weeks, it is highly unlikely to change when you test again at the full three month point. You may as well wait until the twelve weeks is up.

You also need to test for all of the other, more easily transmitted STIs. Many of them can be present without symptoms, so testing is the only way to know for sure.

Hopefully you will test negative - and LEARN from this experience. No glove, no love! Make sure any man you have intercourse with is wearing a condom. NO exceptions!

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
