tattoo aftercare

So I got this tattoo last weekend...long story

I have been taking care of it with this antibiotic cream but after doing research I found that it was generic neosporin which you aren't supposed to do.  I guess some people are allergic.  I switched to A and D ointment yesterday and it still looks OK.  It is scabbing a little, but not too bad. 

question - when should I finish using the ointment.  Like I said - it is a week today.

Pete, sorry but I really can't remember (it's been a few years).  Maybe I kept using it until the tatt finished scabbing, hmm....

Tattoo Aftercare

For the next two weeks, wash tattoo two to three times a day with
mild anti bacterial soap and water. Blot dry using a clean towel.

Keep tattoo consistently moist with a very thin lm of vitamin A-D
ointment for two to four days. Then discontinue use of A-D ointment
and use a mild hand lotion Lubriderm or Aveeno for two weeks or
until healed.

ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENTS SUCH AS NEOSPORIN
AND/OR BACITRACIN SHOULD GENERALLY BE AVOIDED.

Tattoo will begin to peel in a manner similar to a sunburn in three to
ve days. Do not pick or scratch the tattoo or pull the peeling skin.
This could cause the removal of pigment from the tattoo.

Don’t soak the tattoo for at least two weeks. Showers are ne, but
avoid baths, swimming, hot tubs, etc.

Avoid exposure to the sun for at least four weeks. After tattoo is
healed apply sunscreen when tattoo is exposed to avoid fading.

Of course, I used anitbiotic ointment at first (duh - I did the same thing last time). 

It doesnt look that bad - I will give it a few days and go back if it looks shitty

You're welcome Pete. I've always wanted to get a tat but I can never decide what or where. Seeing as they're permanent, my indecision has kept me from getting one because I'm afraid I'll change my mind after it's done.

Oh, and the real thanks go to MarcoPoz after he posted in this thread recommending a tat artist in Michigan. I wanted to see the artwork so I googled (well worth a look, all three artists at that establishment are good) and noticed they had an aftercare sheet. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had a clue where to look for the info for you.
