I have shingles , and no , I'm not going die so y'all cant have my stuff .

I haven't been to the doctor yet but I have had shingles three times before and know whats up . I'm trying to convince myself I can wait till Monday to go to the doc because urgent care places around here piss me off . They hear HIV and will want to do all kind of test while keeping me there for hours while they get HIV specialist on the phone from my clinic . I vowed never to go back to a doc in the box after I walked out the last time while they ran around freaking out .

I called my friend who's a doc and left a message , he will insist on calling me in some valtrex when he calls back because he is counting on me to go with them to the beach for New Years . I hate hitting him up for stuff like this but fortunately I never have to ask because he offers .

If you've had them before, you know how quickly it becomes miserable.  Don't wait too long buddy.

Hope you get it cleared up quickly.

Dang, jg, I hope you hold on until monday and get your valtrex soon. I had shingles back on 2005 (It was 3 years before my Dx, but hell, I suspect I was poz by that time) and I don't wanna get them again. Even thinking about it scares the shit outta me.
Dx: 05/14/2008
Latest HIV Meds combo I've been taking:

Kaletra + Combivir (since 05/16/2008 - 05/09/2019)

Yikes.  I am so sorry to hear this.  I am surely glad you have your doc friend handy.  I remember when I had them that they went from zero to YEOW! in merely hours.

Get thee the Valtrex.  And a nice painkiller wouldn't hurt.

I think it was stress brought on by Miss P calling me an Idiot Hick yesterday in Wolfs Christmas Thread .

When Miss P used his words to hurt me I cried for hours and that's probably what brought it on .

Hey JG;

First - sorry you have the shingles and I hope you get better soon.

Have you had the shingles vaccine?  I was talking to my doctor about it in my last appointment and he kind of poo-pooed the idea - he said insurance wouldn't pay for it till I am 62 (?? I can't remember the exact age, I'm 52 now) and it would be $200 out of pocket. The money seems like allot...until you get the shingles.

I think I am talking myself into the vaccine...

When Miss P used his words to hurt me I cried for hours and that's probably what brought it on .

If there is a Miss P vaccine I will have to consider getting that too.

Again, get better soon,
JM

Hi Jmark . Since I have had shingles before its my understanding the shingles vaccine wont work for me . If I was a candidate for it and could afford it I would get it if I could .

Miss P just needs more love . I encourage every one to PM him and tell him You is smart You is kind You is important .

sorry to hear about your shingles.
crappy timing!

as for the vaccine,
my ID doc told me that i shouldn't get it due to my hiv and the fact it's made from a live virus.
is he right??
(i had chicken pox as a child but have not had shingles...yet)

ps- i doubt miss p. slept a wink last night with all of the guilt.

Sorry to hear this, but please don't wait too long. Shingles are just the worst. Hoping for a speedy recovery and yes most ailments can be directly attributed to Miss P. from male-pattern baldness to IBS.

JG, Mitch:

my ID doc told me that i shouldn't get it due to my hiv and the fact it's made from a live virus.

My doctor indicated that the vaccine could decrease the severity of outbreaks in people that have had shingles, and did not mention a contraindication for HIV.  However, here are two excerpts from the CDC fact sheet on the vaccine:

Even if you have had shingles, you can still receive the shingles vaccine to help prevent future occurrences of the disease. There is no specific time that you must wait after having shingles before receiving the shingles vaccine. The decision on when to get vaccinated should be made with your health care provider. Generally, a person should make sure that the shingles rash has disappeared before getting vaccinated.

Some people should NOT get shingles vaccine.
... A person who has a weakened immune system because of
HIV/AIDS or another disease that affects the immune system...

It may depend on the strength of the immune system of the individual with HIV, again my doc didn't say that would count me out.  I am going to bring it up with my doc next time.

Miss P just needs more love . I encourage every one to PM him and tell him You is smart You is kind You is important .

Yet another application of "treatment as prevention"...

I feel much better today even without treatment .

Maybe it's dementia and not shingles in the first place. I mean, you have been diagnosing yourself.

Jeff, I hope you heal soon and that you're not in much pain because of this new bout.

Take good care of yourself and don't pay any attention to Philicia, she's just jealous cause she doesn't have the shingles badge :-*
