A little less than fine
« on: December 25, 2007, 09:37:01 pm »
I've been on my first cocktail, now, for two weeks.  And I'm finding that on the whole I'm feeling okay, but often, after eating or at the end of the day, I'm feeling just a little less than fine.  It feels like I'm hungry but on a more visceral level.  Although I've had plenty to eat, I'm feelinga little worn, like my body is craving and needing something more.

I've been taking vitamins, in addition to eating well, but I'm just feeling a little drained.

Anyone else have this experience?

Any advice?

I do not know about everyone else but it took me a good six weeks on my meds before my body seemed to settle down and get used to the cyto-toxic chemicals I was dumping into it.  Have you upped the water intake.  To this day, if I am not drinking enough water to flush that shit out of my body, I feel like crap.

I know you are kind of drained but have you tried a nice 30-40 minute power walk.  Exercise is always helpful, at least, I have found that.  I know everything I said sounds basic but sometimes the basics are the best.

If in a few more weeks things aren't better I would discuss with your PCP but, give it a bit more time.  IMHO.

Merry Christmas!

I would definately wait a few more weeks, and let your body get adjusted to your meds.

Its too soon to tell whats what, but most side effects subside in time..

Hey,

I echo the feeling 'drained' sentiment.

I'm on a triple combination of Ziagen, lamivudine, and Viramune..

My tetesterone levels have been checked, and at the 'lower end' of normal, maybe getting that checked would be something worth while?

Regarding food, I'm weird, I sometimes feel like I could go a full day without eating, but if I do, I  feel really sick and have even less energy the next day

I have a jar of gatorade, that I can mix up when I feel blah, it seemed to work a few times, and then stopped being any use.

I have tetesterone supliments sitting in my cupboard, and am going to use them one day, just afraid they'll make me agro (giving up anti depressants at the same time isn't good)

btw, DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!! help your liver and kidneys as best you can !!

I'm with drinking plenty of water.  The Sustiva could be doing it to you.  When I started on Sustiva, I felt really drained for quite awhile, especially in the early middle of the day.  Just give it awhile- about four more weeks.  It always takes me about six weeks to adjust to a new medication.  I also agree with a little exercising.  I force myself to exercise (and I do mean force).  Even if it's just some stretching, it helps.  And I try to keep my brain active.  But maybe that's just a "getting older" thing.   Anyway, I hope you're doing better soon.  Peace!

In short, yes, the same

Hungry and energised but also tired at the same time, odd...

but I was not surprised given the huge viral stress meds took of my body and therefore gave it a chance to do other things.

Hi There,

I also agree with some of the others. You've only been on meds only few weeks, so, give your body more time to adjust to the meds. Also as others have suggested drink more water. Try to get that most needed 8 hours of sleep in everyday, take a nap if you need to.

When it comes to eating, try eating less quantity of food, just eat a little more often during the day, if possible. More fresh fruits and vegetables !  Try to stay away from packaged junk food. That will drain you also.

Take care-----Ray

Thank you all for the advice.

I'm definitely working on the extra water stuff, and I ALWAYS get at least 8 hours of sleep.

Strangely, I've been having a lot of emotional stuff too.

BTW, is it true that if you start a medication, and then you stop taking it, that you cannot take it again?

someone told me that, and it seemed unlikely - but who knows?

No that is not true, at least according to my doc.  If you simply stop the meds, all at once, you do not run much of any chance of your virus developing resistance to your meds.  Resistance happens when your levels of medication constantly rise and fall above the theraputic levels needed in your blood stream.  Sorry for the misspellings.

thanks for the clarification on that.

I've also been taking my meds within 2 hours of the same time every night... am I setting myself up for problems?

Joseph,
I would say no since I asked my doc the same question.  I am on trizivir, norvir and reyataz and I fine the reyataz with boosted norvir make my lower GI tract a little to active if you get my drift  ;).  So I asked my doc would it be alright to take it later or earlier depending upon my meeting schedule, etc.  She said no problem and I also let her know I take my trizivir a few hours difference not exactly 12 hours apart.  Again no problem.  She said the most important thing is not to forget to take the meds and I am very strict with my med schedule.  All that being said, do discuss with your doc since this is only my experience.

Good luck!

Hi Joseph

I'm on Reyataz, Norvir, Tenofovir and Emtriva once a day, I take them at night, it's the last thing I do before going to bed..my bedtime varies so I take them anytime between 10.30 and midnight..my doc doesn't forsee any problems with this.

have a great new year.

Hugs
