Liver enzymes/gallbladder attack

Hello everyone. I tested positive at age 20 in 1992. My liver function has always been normal. I had a gallbladder attack 10 days ago. They told me my liver enzymes were elevated. I followed up last monday with my hiv doc and the liver enzymes were twice as high so he suggested I go to the emergency room. The blood work in the emrgency room on wednesday showed they had come down but were still high. My original ALT was 119 then ALT 550 then ALT 300. They said in the emergency room,"Lets hope you peaked out on monday and continue to trend down. Go to your doctor on monday april 1 to get more bloodwork." They don't know what suddenly caused my liver enzymes to spike. Im really worried and frightened to see my next set of bloodwork. The elevated enzymes could be related to the gallbladder or psych meds or hiv meds. Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear about the gall bladder Philly.  Hopefully the spike in the liver enzymes is just a blip and they will continue the down trend.  Good luck this next week.

My advice would be to write down every question that you can think of, and present those questions to your doctor tomorrow, and get his thoughts and opinions . You are seeing the doctor tomorrow, right ?  Or, I should say today ( Monday)

Get those questions together for your doctor, and get back with us.

Do you have frequent gallbladder issues?  Have you had an ultrasound and HIDA scan?

Ive been to two emergency rooms. I was given only an ultra-sound at each hospital. The gallbladder surgeon said today that he would not have discharged me from either emergency room. He said i should have been given an MRI to make sure there is not a stone blocking the bile duct. He said I should have been at the very least referred to a GI doctor. He said he was calling my HIV doctor to see if the HIV doctor knows a GI specialist who works with HIVpositive people with liver issues. All I know is my liver enzymes were always normal including two months ago. The liver enzymes were AST 70 ALT 110 last friday then AST 400 ALT 500 on monday then AST 120 ALT 300 on wednesday. I went to my HIV doctor after the surgeon and had more blood drawn today. No one can give me any answers so my only hope is that the enzymes continue to trend down because I have no faith in the doctors at this point. I spoke to a nurse at my hiv doctors office and she said,"Don't be scared we'll fix this." I was taking psych meds and hiv drugs(Reyataz,norivr booster,viread and isentress.) My HIV docotor and the second emergency room decided it was the psych meds that were responsible for the enzyme jump even though my liver enzymes came down while I was still on the psych meds. The surgeon said today the HIV meds are much more likly to cause liver toxicity then the psych meds. So as you can see none of the doctors i've dealt with seem to have any idea what they are doing so im praying this resolves itself and that the blood they drew today shows continued imrovement in the liver enzymes. I don't know what to do or what to believe at this point. My health has been perfect my entire life now all of a sudden my gallbladder and liver go berserk.

BTW last friday was my first gallbladder attack. It seems like a big conincidence that my liver enzymes were always normal then slightly elevated two hours after the gallbladder attack started then up on monday and down but still high on wednesday.
