Title: Eewww.
Post by: Mouse on August 29, 2006, 06:53:58 pm
Well, eight days ago I had my wisdom teeth out, and I was assured by my doctor that if I rinsed often and kept the area clean and made sure no food got in there, I would not get an infection.

I did all that, though.  >:(

The past few days the left wisdom tooth area had been bothering me and an area of it felt puffy and hard when I felt back there with my tongue, and then the other night it suddenly popped and oozed pus. Which I wound up swallowing and it made me nauseous. Yay! (Yes, that was gross, but I wish to spread my disgust around.)

So, yesterday I went to the dentist and he looked and said, "OH! It's infected!". I also think I grossed him out a bit. Bah, he deserved it.

He seemed so shocked though. I'm sort of frustrated and pissed off. It's funny (well, sort of. Gross = funny to me) but it's also pretty painful and repulsive. He should've prescribed me antibiotics in the first place, but he didn't.

Oh well. I'm taking them now. I hope this clears up soon because I was just starting to feel my mouth get all back to normal. Bah. =(

Didn't I say you'd need anti-biotics? Immuno-compromised people should always be given prophylactic anti-biotic treatment following this kind of surgery.

My Dear Jasser,

Please take heed of what MtD has shared with you, and please also never let a doctor convince you otherwise.  You know you body best, and you are the captain of your own health.  In the future, please never forget this and make sure you take your meds until they are finished, and don't miss any dosages.  Those infections are a bear, and they hang on forever if you don't make sure they are gone.

Love you guy, so please take care of thyself!

Ouch! I had dry sockets when they removed my wisdom teeth.  It was gross and they "packed" the sockets with bandages... talk about yuck!

Glad you are on antibiotics now!  Perhaps that's what's making you so tired...

Hey Jaser, let the antibiotics run their course. Take them as the Dentist has prescribed them to you and....get rid of that infection!

Gargling with very salty warmish water also helps. Chlorine has a natural affinity for bugs and crap.

Hey Jaser,
What MtD, Moffie and Wellington said - take you antibiotics faithfully. The warm salt-water rinses also help because they promote healing and also help wash the nasty gunk out of your mouth.

I laid there, wide awake, while they chisled my lower wisdom teeth out. Never again!

I hope you feel better very soon.

HUGS,

Mark

Along with the anti-biotics you might regularly (several times a day) rinse your mouth with quite warm water with salt mixed in. It's very healing and it will help to keep the area clean.

When I had my wisdom teeth out in the Jurassic Era the dentist made an ooops and opened an artery that was wound around the root of one of my teeth. I ended up in hospital for a week. Sometime later (weeks) I was walking along the street and thought what in hell is that feeling in my mouth. I reached in and lo and behold there was the massive bit of packing which OOOPS again, the doctor had forgotten to remove. So gross!

Moral: You gotta pay attention because even good doctors can make mistakes.

Hope you're on the mend now, Jaser. And keep rinsing. It will also make your teeth shiny and bright and give you a good smile.

Cheers,

I've been rinsing. Especially after eating so food doesn't get caught in there.

Anyway!

The swelling is goneeee. It's not oozing anymore. It's just a little more sore on that side than the other but everything seems to be clearing up and working perfectly. :)

Also the holes feel smaller (I know because I play with them obsessively with my tongue). So I think I'm actually doing pretty well despite that whole side track thing with the infection. Yay for healing fast!
