Increase in Creatinine - latest blood report
« on: July 09, 2015, 02:44:21 pm »
Hi,
I'm here after a long gap. I've been taking Atripla religiously, doing well & going about my life just fine - so far, so good.
My cholesterol level was a bit of a challenge in my last blood report but that has come under control and seems to be fine now. However, there were two numbers in my latest blood test report (July 8, 2105) that might be a cause for concern so I thought I will post them here.
1) My creatinine level went from 0.9 in the last report to 1.26 (1.25 is the upper limit of the normal range)
2) Uric Acid level went down from 5.5 to 2.8 (3.5 is the lower limit of the normal range)
I'm not sure what this means, so any advice will help.

I will be going to see my doctor early next week. I am hoping he will let me continue on Atripla since it seems to be working - my latest CD4 count is almost near 500 (and 30.5%).
Thanks.

i'm NOT a doctor

if you've regained lost weight, especially muscle... that can account for the creatinine level. in that circumstance it's not a bad thing. probably temporary. personally i wouldn't be concerned about that at all

far as your uric acids... you can affect that alot with diet changes... dark stout beer works, seriously

Your Creatinine is pretty much in the normal range, in fact for my area the range is 0.76 to 1.27 so you're still in range for Texas.  It's probably just the Truvada components of Atripla, if your doctor isn't worried about it, I wouldn't be either.  Mine typically bounces around in the top third of the range to slightly over at maybe 1.30, it's never been a cause for concern, although I'll probably switch to TAF when it's available anyway.

I don't think low uric acid is anything to worry about unless you're an alcoholic.  Since you didn't mention any liver issues, that doesn't seem likely, so ask your doctor about it next week, but don't worry in the meantime.

First and foremost -- any single change in a lab result may mean nothing at all -- or it could be signaling a change.  It's impossible to tell, for most tests, off a single result.  You would need a repeat prior to anything be diagnosed.
I agree that the Creat level is no big concern at this point.

Try not to worry about things like this - if your doctor has concerns he'll address them with you.  If anything was dangerously "off", the lab should have alerted your doctor, who could take action early.

Take a breath and enjoy the weekend.

Mike

Thanks a lot guys. As always, getting responses from you guys made me feel much better.
I have put on a bit of weight and a lot of that could be muscle since I have been working out regularly. overall, I'm  feeling great physically & otherwise.
I'll be seeing my doc next week and will discuss these numbers with him.
Thanks, once again. I appreciate all the wonderful people on this forum.
Cheers.
