Title: Tested Positive June 20th - Introducing myself here
Post by: +Man on August 29, 2007, 10:40:46 pm
I tested positive in late June.  I was devastated.  I found this board, and the useful information contained herein and have logged on every day.  Some of you may have seen me post a couple of times, maybe not.  I wanted to formally introduce myself here, and thank those of you who have helped me, especially Milker and Ann.

I am 36, and live in Palm Springs, CA.  I can tell you that starting meds in the summer heat of the desert is NOT fun!  However, I am grateful for the meds and as you can see from the numbers below, they seem to be working for me.  I hope to bring my VL to <50 copies per ml on my next test.  Feel free to wish me luck.

I went through some really dark moments when I got the news.  I went through some changes, and I am still adjusting.  I hope this place can help me through them, and I hope that most of that is behind me now.  I have seen some great moments on this board so far.  I have seen people fight it out for their views or opinions, and I have seen people lay their hearts bare to help someone with the power of their experience.  I look forward to coming here for support, and to provide it when I can.  It occurs to me that this place is as good as the people that come together on it.  I hope that I will be able to contribute in a beneficial way.

So, here I am.  Feel free to say hello.

Jon

Hey Jon,

so the system didn't crash on you this time :D

I'm glad you finally did the intro. I was in Palm Springs a few weeks ago and got a nice lobster tan from it. I'm planning to go back before the end of the year so hopefully we'll meet !

Welcome to the forums,

Milker.

Hi, Jon. Welcome! I agree, the quality of the people (how we conduct ourselves, really) determines the worth of this Site. I look forward to reading your contributions in the years to come.

Hi Jon:

Welcome to the board.  I was diagnosed back in February 2006.  When I first diagnosed I thought I was going to die within the month.  Now after a year and half I'm taking better care of myself and appreciating the smaller things in life.

I will not value what is valueless and I'm committed to joy not suffering =)

Peace,

Jordan

Hello Jon!!

We all know what it's like to be told you are poz and to make the choice to start the meds.
Although you are going through a mix of emotions, I am confident you will come to a point that you realize that this disease is something that you can live with.
I look at being HIV Positive as a challenge. Waking up everyday is a blessing to me and I value how fortunate I am to have a good strong support system that consists of a partner of 10 years and a golden retriever who, with a hundred kisses a day, lets me know how lucky I am to be alive. One other thing I am grateful for is a great insurance plan and a doctor and staff who really care about me and take the time to listen to what i have to say. To me, you have to be able to communicate EVERYTHING to your doctor and be proactive in this struggle.
One thing that the 'conversion' has done for me is that it makes me appreciate each moment I have....many people go through life with blinders on and are  not aware of the gift of life they have been given. 16+ years into this and I am grateful for each day and look forward to many more years ahead.
In reading your post, it seems as though you are doing well now and that is good to see.
Stay optimistic and be strong. This ride can be bumpy sometimes, but thanks to places like this, and a positive attitude, there is nothing that can get you down. Just keep your head up!!
Although I am relatively new here myself, I just wanted to say welcome and hope this site gives you some strength.
Stay strong!!!
