There was no risk.  His own saliva would have destroyed any presence of "viable" HIV particles.  And that's assuming a big "IF" there were any - since you are undetectable, the presence of HIV in semen while maybe not zero is very very small. 

I'm sure someone will probably chime in with all the theoretical risks, like a microscopic cut, or his chapped lips, or that he's gonna sneeze tonight, or suddenly have a fever tomorrow, but there are no cases of transmission that exist from this way.  You can be calm...if what you describe is accurate, your sexual partner has encountered no risk.

Actually, I don't think it is that big of a leap or a hi-jack.  The OP did not mention disclosure and I think it's a fair question.  The risk information is readily available in the tutorials and in HIV education literature.  Therefore, the logical jump to bringing it up here is to discuss talking about boundaries and disclosure.  If the partner was also HIV+ then the OP wouldn't be asking about risk.

Scenario 1: Pre-Disclosure.  Less of a big deal here.  Partner made an informed decision.  Overall risk doesn't change, but the door is open to having boundary discussions regarding behavioral risk.  Boundary discussions are talking openly about what is and is not okay in each partner's mind.

Scenario 2: Random / Anonymous (aka bathhouse type) sex.  Disclosure is unlikely in this environment.  Risk doesn't change, but a more open discussion about keeping one's fluids to one's self is likely to come up.  Thus the focus is less on how to discuss risk and more on how to avoid risk.

Bottom Line:  Oral transmission isn't very likely with an undetectable viral load and incidental contact (tip of tongue).  However, the licker is engaging in behavior that may lead to more risky activity.  It's not a big leap to go from licking to swallowing to bareback sex.  Of course, that's just my opinion which isn't going to cover every man in every instance.  If you entertain my escalation theory for a moment, disclosure becomes a big deal.  After you evaluate the risk (which is minimal) the next conversation is going to be disclosure or limits.  Limits can't be discussed if you haven't done disclosure.  If after an activity that is low risk you do disclosure you are likely to have someone over-react if they do not have a good education in HIV risk theory.  Over react means that they are likely to blow the situation out of proportion.  So in the end, I think disclosure is an important tidbit of information that is missing.

Of course, only the OP really knows what happened, under what circumstances, and why they were prompted to post.  The rest of us can only put ourselves in that situation and react accordingly.  I'm certainly not judging, or making a moral statement.  lol.  You'd have to know me a little better thought to realize that.  I'm no angel.

Apples and Oranges.  Note that the OP stated he was on meds and undetectable - thus, the number of "infectious" HIV particles in his cum is very small (possibly zero). 

Realize that the case here with the OP is very different than the population you deal with in your Counseling day-to-day activities.  You are taught that information because the DOH wants to show people what will happen if HIV is not detected and left untreated.

I'd like to add a couple of concepts:

1. Observed Risk:  Like another poster said, if you could get HIV from oral sex there would probably be more cases of folks catching it. 

2. Relative Risk:  HIV needs a doorway to get into the body.  This is typically in the form of a cut or sore.  In anal sex it's well known that very small tears occur and miniscule amounts of bleeding occur.  This provides a pathway into the body.  Co-infection with Herpes or Syphillus can also provide a pathway into the body.  I think sometimes that organizations or educators mean well and over-simplify the virus to the point of giving it "intelligence".  As Ann stated, it is active or in-active.  HIV specifically needs access to either the CCR5 or CXCR4 co-receptors for it to infect a cell.

Outside Resources:
  It is estimated that 60 to 70% of new infections involve CCR5 tropic HIV. http://www.aidshivresearch.com/showabstract.php?pmid=16905787&source=newsletter It was cited as slightly higher in this reference.  My last research doc cited it as 60 to 70% and he was studying CCR5 inhibitors.  My point here is that the relative risk is related to the activity.

From what I have read, the virus is fragile.  My guess is that the temperature change impacts something like PH and causes the virus to lose it's outer layer.

Naw, I catch around 90% who try to start a new account during the registration process. The other 10% get caught out sooner or later. Just got one today. When I first began moderating in 2002, there were some in that forum who had as many as 20 accounts. About 50-60% had at least two.
