Difficult Upgrade
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:07:59 pm »
Hey gang:

Sorry for the long downtime today.  Just attempted a difficult upgrade to our forums software.  I think I've got everthing working except the ignore feature, and the membership star ratings are showing again -- both of which I'll try fixing tomorrow.

Please report any new bugs you find, using this thread.

I need to collapse now.

Peter

Peter, it won't let me send a private message.   What's up with that?

I think we're all having that problem.

I feel like a character in a movie where something horrible happens, and camera pans up really quickly while looking down on the person.  "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

This is because I am a nerd.

Folks can always see their own emails, so please stop freaking out about this.  When you hide your email from others, you'll still be able to see your own email address.

Ademas -- you'll need to send me an email to editors@aidsmeds.com to let me know what your real email address is (please include your username).  Changing your email address to a fake address will automatically change your password (which you won't receive because of the fake email).  This will lock you out of the forums.

For those of you who have your email hidden in your profile, it will show up when YOU look at it - and it should be in italics. If it's not in italics and you want it hidden, just click on your "account related settings" link in your profile and change it.

Peter, would now be a good time to try out that bio code?

The spell check doesn't seem to be working.

Just thought I would mention it, since I can be a lousy speller at times.

Peter -

My apologies for jumping the gun regarding viewable email addy's; my bad.  I typically don't react so hastily. I panicked last night shortly after the forums came alive, and concluded [wrongly], that my email address was 'out there' for all the world to see (I should have known this was not the case).

I wrongly assumed, when viewing my own profile (which I rarely, if ever, do), that my own email address would report through as 'hidden.'

Again - sorry for adding to the woes of your [already] L-O-N-G day, yesterday.  I'll better familiarize myself with  the various features and workings of the site before reacting so hastily in the future.

Regards,
Chris

That's weird - I've used the spell checker tonight without problem.  Must be a plot to keep you from correcting your errors...not that I think you would make any :)

Rhino -- your screen cap is confusing, since it doesn't show mispelled words.  Besides Mark & Rhino, is anyone else having a problem with spellcheck not working?

I need to determine if this is a wide-spread problem.

My spell check was not working last night (doing the same as his screen shot.  I was using Foxfire last night instead of IE explorer.  Now that I am using IE explorer, it is working (work computer doesn't have Foxfire).  Perhaps the fix isn't working with that browser?

The problem seems to be unique to Firefox. I am using IE now and spell check is working perfectly. With Firefox the spell check window pops up with whatever you type duplicated and highlighted as if it were one word. It would not check individual words for spelling errors. Maybe the problem is specific to a particular version, mine is -

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.8 ) Gecko/20061025 Firefox/1.5.0.8

Good morning Peter,

I am using a MAC computer with either Firefox v.2.0 and/or Safari v.2.0.4. and in both cases spell check does not work.

Firefox duplicate and highlight everything I type, and Safari does nothing at all.

Hope that helps.

Did spellcheck work with Firefox and/or Safari before I upgraded the software on Wednesday?

Kevin -- you say your Firefox works with spellcheck.  Which version do you have?

There's a thread at the SMF forums (SMF is the software we use for these forums) with others reporting the same issue with the new upgrade version.  It's at http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=134108.0.

Hey Peter -

I am using Firefox 1.5.0.8 - also I just gave it another try to make sure I wasn't dreaming when I said it was working the other day - and it worked great.

Used this sentence: Ths is a tst of the spel cheaker

And it found all errors.

Good luck on solving this puzzle...damn software :)

However, has anyone experienced an issue with changing their Avatar? I changed mine last night and it took forever for it to change over.
