Richmond Times Dispatch

About one-half inch to more than 2 inches of snow and sleet have fallen in the Richmond area, according to reports to the National Weather Service.

About 2.5 inches was reported late this morning in Beaverdam in Hanover County.

The winter weather -- sleet, rain, freezing rain, snow -- started Sunday evening, said Tim Gingrich, a weather service meteorologist.

The current round of precipitation should end early this afternoon, Gingrich said.

Doesn't sound to "off" to me, bocker.  Plus radar currently shows a stream of mixed precipitation in the southern suburbs that has not even ended and stretches back to Windson-Salem moving in a northeasterly line to the Eastern Shore.

I'm NOT laughing.

The version that just came out a couple hours ago is even worse -- oh, and now snow is showing here for next Tuesday on long range forecasts.

LOL... wow, this wasn't predicted. NWS just slapped winter weather advisories a mere twenty miles away from me, until 8 AM tomorrow. I was also snowing earlier in the western suburbs of DC.

http://www.weather.gov/phi/

edit: and while we have no "official" advisory in the city NWS now lists "snow/sleet" in the city if the temperatures dip to 34F. Earlier we weren't going down below 38F. No accumulation expected.

heheheheh... funny you should say that.

A week or so ago the overnight boat (from Heysham) which carries much of our imported food and freight was cancelled. This boat also carries our UK newspapers.

The grocery over the road from me has a four-sided newspaper rack and that day, on all four sides of the rack there were individually (not photocopied) hand-written notes which said...

There is no papers today due to boat cancellation.

I had a pen with me so naturally I crossed out every is and replaced them with are. I didn't have a red pen though, just a blue one. :-\

On the internet I only play grammar police point out an error when it makes me giggle. (And I know I make typos myself; who doesn't.) The bad grammar on the newspaper rack just irritated the crap out of me so I did something about it. ;D

I might not be a school marm myself, but I produced one! My daughter teaches year three at a primary school in Suffolk. :)

I would love to have you living next door! The current owners turned it into a B&B and did a beautiful job. It's a shame they are such pricks.

NOT a cheap place to stay. They get around $200-300 a night.

One must assume that the market accepts such prices and that the owners provide commiserate service.

As far as I know there are only 2 B&B's in town. This one and the one across the street from them. Maybe 10 rooms total. I can't think of another or even a hotel/motel within 10 miles. They also get the majority of there business from the Goodspeed Opera House, from patrons as well as family members of the actors, etc.

Bishops Gate is a bit cheaper but not as posh.

Snows of Mid-April

A Brooklyn garden gnome woke up to snow and sleet this morning.

ps: this did not occur in downtown Philadelphia but probably did in the near western suburbs. And they actually got a full 2 inches in the Poconos.

How sad that we had to revive the Winter thread in April. ;)  As someone who usually detests Summer time, I might need a paradigm shift.  Even I'm over this.  The cold was brutal and it was below freezing again last night.

I didn't even get a chance to snap pictures of the flowers that are growing at the new place that I didn't even know existed.  The poor little things have ice one them.   :(

Thankfully, the Lily garden hasn't bloomed yet so hopefully they'll thrive.

It went down to 31F overnight here and I didn't even bother turning on my A/C because when I went to bed it was still a stifling 76.5F in my apartment from the day's heat being trapped inside. When I woke up it was 68F inside, and I'd only slept with a wool blanket not my down comforter.

But today's high will only be 50F so it won't warm up in here and I'll probably have to turn the heat on tonight because it's going down to near-freezing again. This is DEFINITELY the last cold snap of the season.

Woke up to this yesterday morning. The white magnolia tree blooming above the snow. Kind of pretty but enough with the snow already!

Tulip Magnolia is what we call them too. Beautiful but boy they are messy. They make those little torpedo pods that pour down in early July. Headgear needed.
