Feature Article (AMG Media Coverage Part 1)
« on: September 08, 2007, 07:05:09 pm »
I posted before that I intend to write an article about AMG, and that’s still happening.  I’m not sure what angle it’s going to take, but it’s going to paint AMG, aidsmeds.com and all my friends in a positive (forgive the overused pun) light. We all share a lot with each other and I want to give us some exposure. We’re a diverse group and that’s part of what I want to convey to readers.

Along with the verbal part go photos.  I’ll have a photo release that I’ll need for you to sign if it’s okay to publish your name and picture. If you don’t want your photo published, that’s okay. Most importantly, if you don’t want any mention of you, including your Forums screen name, please let me know.

Nothing is set in stone regarding publication, but there is some interest.  I’ll be happy to explain more when we get together next week (THIS week for a certain trio from Down Under!)

Best,
Creighton

Hey Creighton,

Over the past few years of activism in the RWCA reauthorization, I did have the opportunity to work with Gary Carnivelle of We The People, which is the Northbay voice of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people in Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino Counties.  They are a free circulation/distribution paper, they have a website www.gaysonoma.com and I believe Gary would publish your article.

Most publications will not accept an article.  They will accept a press release and if the editor believes the release to have readership value, he/she will pass it on to the reporter.  The reporter may or may not cover the story and most reporters/ editors in the 5 county region have all told me that HIV is not news.  Getting coverage is a lot of hard work and how do we benefit?  Please contact Gary before you invest so much personal energy in this project.  Have the best day
Michael

Hey Creighton,

Stephanie Hiller is the Managing Editor of North Bay Progressive.  They are a monthly news magazine and has stated she would like to have more coverage on HIV issues.

Katy Hillerman is a reporter with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, a  New York Times owned daily newspaper.  They have high circulation and if you send an article to then, send it to Katy directly.  Her editor has been known to not present press releases.

Barry Dugan is the Managing Editor of the Sonoma West News and Times in Sebastopol.  It is a twice weekly newspaper owned by an out of state company.  This company also owns most of the small print media in Northern California.

If you run into the Anderson Valley Advertiser... He has a long running history of recreating or redefining yellow journalism and should be avoided.

I have a contact name for the Marin Independent Journal and a fax number if you want them.  They are also owned by the Colorado company which owns most small town papers and TV 50.

La Voz is Northern California's bi-lingual newspaper, a monthly publication.  They expect the copy to arrive in both Spanish and English or they will not print the story without charging for translations.  The Sonoma County School District pays them about $7,000.00 each and every month, so they expect payment from all non-profits.

Most small papers will look at our gathering but, consider it to be a San Francisco story.  Whether or not San Francisco papers will run with the story is anyone guess.  If you want names and fax numbers to any of these papers, please PM me.  Have the best day
Michael

I posted a reply last night, but see it didn't make it.  I don't mind if my name and pics are used at all.

Creighton,

I suggest you contact the two gay weeklies in San Francisco:

Bay Area Reporter
The San Francisco Bay Times

My guess is that these papers would be very interested in reporting on this event.
