So there I was, every inch the domestic goddess at the fish counter of my local (UK) Morrissons supermarket selecting a couple of nice pieces of smoked cod for mine and hubby's dinner.

Preparing the said fillets pre-cooking, I was carefully pulling all the remaining bones out with tweezers when I pulled at, and removed an unusually dark looking bone, it was about two inches long, reddish brown and about 1/16" in diameter. As I extracted it and laid it on the paper with the rest of the bones I swore I saw it wiggle  ???, yep there it was slowly coiling and uncoiling itself. :o

Now I will eat just about most things but I do admit that I am very fussy when it comes to this sort of thing, worms, grubs and maggots just ain't my thing and I don't care if they're boiled or fried, the thought of it just makes me wanna -- shout down the big white trombone.

So I burned rubber all the way back to the store and demanded to see the manager  >:( ; Hmmm, he said after a brief examination; "I'm sorry Sir but it's just a COD WORM", the "customer service" assistant at his side nearly wet herself laughing at that one. I nearly lost my temper but got a hold of myself, I fixed his stare and asked "So you're a f*$king zoologist as well as a shop assistant are you?" His poor assistant went into the back room as he tried to explain - in all seriousness -- that the "cod worm" is perfectly natural but that it was bad practice on the part of his fishmonger to allow it to reach display like that. I said that I thought it was totally disgusting and that if I was him I would sack the fishmonger in that case. He asked me what I wanted and when I said "well certainly not your fish" he offered me a bottle of wine.

I said that we could start with a full refund which he agreed to and called his barely composed assistant from the back office to go get me a bottle of wine "for my trouble". While she was gone he filled in a refund sheet which he asked me to sign, on it was a line of boxes to be ticked for the refund reason; from 'A', goods not wanted through to 'G', goods substandard further action necessary. As soon as I had signed it he took it from me and I saw him tick the 'C' box and put it back under the counter.

Now I am definitely going to take the matter further with the stores head office because it really was disgusting and will put me off fish for quite a while, also his whole attitude was not to take me seriously.

BUT HAS ANYBODY ELSE EVER HEARD OF A COD WORM , or was he totally taking the piss???

Oh I just read up on it and the more I read the sicker it was making me. In the UK they can have 5 worms for every 2.2 kg. of flesh. I'm not a big fish eater let alone fresh fish. Nor do I eat two legged fish.  ;D

that sound gross. I got all nauseas after seeing a big green worm in a fresh head of Romaine lettuce. Bagged lettuce from that day forward!

That is so revolting.  Stick to beef - it's so full of hormones, steroids and antibiotics nothing organic can live in it.

JFC!!!  I don't recall cod being on the menu when I've ordered sushi, but I am now reexamining my entire diet. Gross.

Do you want to gross yourself out?  Please, please do not go here if you're eating or squeamish.  You are warned.

Go to Google.  Type in "human bot fly infestation story" and click on the first link.  I swear, I was up for nights scratching... it was that bad.

Ewwww. That's why I don't eat fish, well not the reason but am glad I don't eat it. Being the Queen that I am, I prefer lobster, crab, and shrimp... ;) Rod, please don't say there is something gross about them...lol....

Well I thought he was taking the piss, but I just Googled "cod worm" like perhaps I should've done before shooting off so much and now I find that they really do exist, it gets worse I might even owe him some sort of an apology :'(

He won't get one though 'cos it still shouldn't have been in my dinner - no sir. :-X

I'm totally grossed out on what I read about them though and don't think I'll ever eat fish again, with or without legs Rod, LOL. ;D

Anyone for muesli  ;D ;D

   Can you imagine the size of the worms in the fish below?   As long as it does not have a smell I just throw it in the frying pan.   We have game shows where people it man eating bugs (atleast they look like it), what harm can a lil worm do?   Never know.... might just make them taste better ::)

pffft, worms schurms. So long as it can't continue to live inside me... who cares! I've even tried fried meal worms in pasta... crunch and quite a bit like chicken. mm mm good.

Isn't this a good argument for processed food? Who even heard of a cod worm in a Twinkie?
