Blip... worried
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:51:37 am »
Hi all,

I just been to my clinic and after being undetectable and on Atripla for 7 years, I was told my VL was 615. I was retested immediately and told I should expect a call from them within a week to know if that was a lab error or what.

Should I worry?

I have never missed a dose of Atripla in 7 years and always took it at the right time.

I am past caring at blips, there has been so many , including lab cock-ups.

If and it is only a  if your current treatment is failing ,there are others I presume , waiting for you , I realize that your personal circumstance will make this easy to differcult.

But in the range off things to worry about , low down on the list.

615 vl is more "blippish" than, say a 100 reading, but there is no sense in worrying until a lab error is ruled out. Even if it indicates a resistance issues what sense is there in worrying? You're not going to suddenly find yourself in a hospital. If it ends up accurate they will simply do a genotype test and then find what next regimen is appropriate to you and you will make a change of medication. I think some have a concept that their viral load will suddenly explode into the millions and it just doesn't work that way.

Bottom line -- don't let your mind get carried away. Just don't miss your doctor's appointments until it is sorted out. You will be absolutely fine.

UPDATE: My doc called and he said that the new VL test came back undetectable!  ;D So he reckons it was either a lab error or a blip, but I don't have to change my regimen. SO relieved!!!

Newbie - That is great to hear, and thanks for the update.  As a newbie myself - there is that little worry with every lab.

Best, JM
