I caught a few matches - like the one where England ingloriously bowed out.

I also watched the semi-final between Australia and New Zealand - it was a really fun match to watch and the Aussies got creamed. The final with France was REALLY tense though - and at 7-8, it was a record low for point difference. Both teams deserved to win, but I'm happy for the All Blacks. My cats thought I was going nutz because every time France had possession, I was jumping up and down yelling "STOP THEM!!!" ;D

Lord there will be no living with that woman now.  ::)

But congrats are certainly sent!

Funny story.  When we were in New Zealand two years ago Jim and Jan took us to a club that Jim performs at.  As we entered through the door I saw a sign that said:  "We welcome All Blacks".

I thought WTF!   ???

After we were seated I asked Jan to follow me back to the front, pointed out the sign and asked:  "What the heck does that mean?"  (I had no idea it was a sports team and interpreted it in an entirely different way.)

She laughed so hard I thought she was going to wet herself.

Now I know!  LOL

Congrats again to NZ!

Is the World Cup some sort of world championship beer guzzling contest?  ;)

Congrats to New Zealand and Jan!

Minus the hangover of course.... ::)

Rugby, lad, rugby.  It's a much tougher, much more macho, totally better version of American football, and it was around well before American football. Rugby players don't wear all that sisy protective gear. The most they do is tape their ears down with a bit of electrical tape to stop them being ripped off.

It's not unusual for the boys to be bloody and black-eyed by the end of the match. Not a game for namby-pamby Yank sportsmen. Leave it to the real men in other countries. ;)

New Zealand is still celebrating the Cup, it's doing the rounds of the major cities, and it's down in the South Island at the moment, the team have been getting huge crowds and support from all their fans.

I had a wee party here at home, and while the All Blacks didn't get the points we all hoped for it was a decent win, but we have give France their due it could have quite easily gone their way.

I did have a couple of Baily's but I had to stay sober I was chief cook and bottle washer.

Thank you all for your support, I will pass on your best wishes to the team.... ;)

Special thanks to you Em

LOL well hopefully Jan realized I was playin'

I figured it was either Soccer (do you say futbol?) or Rugby, but since I wasn't wearing my "Go Uraguay" tee shirt I figured it was the latter...

Thanks woman from Midwest. ;)

I knew you were playin', but I couldn't resist the chance to get a few digs in about American football. Lord knows I heard it enough when I first moved over here, so I thought I'd spread the joy. ;D

By the way, Jan most likely pronounces football as fitbah. It's a Scottish thing, ya know.

Jan - what did you think of the French challenging the Haka? (video) I thought it was pretty cheeky of them - but I don't agree with the fine they got.

You can still watch the final's highlights on the Rugby World Cup website.
