A numbers question. Also: Back in the 400's

So today I'm at CD4=417, 22%, VL=U

My absolute figure for most of 2007 languished in the 300's after a high point in 2006 of 419, 18%, VL=67

(My low point was 42 :o, 7%, VL=100,000 in 2005)


So here's my question
417 and 419 are very similar, so why is the percentage not? Shouldn't 417 be like 17%?  ???

Current Meds ; Viramune / Epzicom Eliquis, Diltiazem. Pravastatin 80mg, Ezetimibe. UPDATED 2/18/24
 Tested positive in 1985,.. In October of 2003, My t-cell count was 16, Viral load was over 500,000, Percentage at that time was 5%. I started on  HAART on October 24th, 2003.

 UPDATED: As of April, 2nd 2024,Viral load Undetectable.
CD 4 @593 /  CD4 % @ 18 %

Lymphocytes,total-3305 (within range)

cd4/cd8 ratio -0.31

cd8 %-57

Hiya Alex,

417 is a very fast speed!!!! good news!!!

Percentage refers to the amount of CD4 in the total counting of lymphocites (white cells). The higher is the percentage, the better you are doing. The fact that number of CD4 remains similar despite the percentage increases is due to the ability of your inmune system to fight HIV and other infections is improving. It is normal to have oscillations in the total number of lymphocites (CD4 plus all the other types of white cells), but, the important thing is that your CD4 percentage remains stable, indeed growing, despite total lymphocite number oscillations. That's round all good news.

So, keep going fast!!!!

thanks everyone ...hugs back. i guess it's part of living with hiv. the dipsy-whipsy-loop-D-loops. i'm so ready for "onward and upward" ... one thing i have to train myself to do is ask the doctor for my percentage over the phone. when he calls, he gives me my absolute and VL in a hurried way. very different from how he is in person. then i have to call back and get the percentage and it's usually the nurse who takes the call and i have to just hope she gives me the new reading and not looking at the old one on the computer and just repeating what she sees. all can be prevented with one simple percentage question
