When do you think that they will find a cure to test on humans?  One, five, ten, twenty years?!  Or are they already testing on humans?

red_Dragon888,

Anyone who tries to be that specific is guessing. They are  testing a lot of therapies on humans, however, none of them could be considered a cure at this point in time.

Sooooo, the answer to your question is :   Don't know.

My suggestion is to stop waiting for a cure and get on with your life.  There is no certainty that a cure will ever be found.  We can all hope that some research will work out to our extreme benefit, but until then the available therapies are a decent way of allowing us to live normal lives, with a few extra concessions most people don't have to deal with.

I agree with HR on this! There are a ton of other diseases and illnesses that have no cure and none on the horizon. HIV isn't all that special. There are plenty of people who have been waiting for "cures" longer. Just be thankful you don't have one of the more horrible cancers or something - chemo and radiation are a lot nastier than some little ol' anti-hiv meds. However you don't have to quit hoping, that's part and parcel of having a positive attitude - just don't waste all your time doing that and forget to live life everyday.

Personally, I've never expected to see a cure in my lifetime. Why would I, when so many other people have been waiting for the cures to their diseases for so much longer? (I believe big pharma is getting lots of money off of a lot of people for not curing a lot of things ;) ) I've never wasted one second's thought wishing the cure would come today. The reality I have to deal with is that if I don't treat my HIV today then it could kill me like it did to my two late partners. Heavens! My first partner didn't even have meds to stave it off for another 22.5 yrs (see thread about life expectancy with hiv ;) ) so I feel pretty thankful that the medical science has improved to this point. Not longing for a cure, I can go through my days without a constant disappointment hanging over my head and someday, in 10 yrs or so, when a cure might finally wind it's way through the system, I'll be pleasantly surprised, rather than being tired from all those years of wasted hoping.

I am with you on that one.  We have come a long way.  I'm sure that in time we'll see even more improvements in what's available to fight this thang.

There are rumors circulating that the cure has been made from DNA extracted from Robert Pattinson's arm pit hair.

Really? I heard it was found between Ann Coulter's scrotal folds.

Did your source tell you where this is going to happen?  We need to go there and camp out before any of the curesters show up.  It will be a long queue.

I'm not holding out for a cure.

Even if one did appear in my lifetime, it will be outragously expensive and probably not covered by insurance.

If it were outrageously expensive I think I would find a way to pay for it.  I'd sure start saving anyway :D

I am hoping that it will be "outrageously inexpenxive" so that all can afford it.

The cure will be something very simple and cheap. And BigPh won't make trillions of dollars per year from hiv drugs if it is available..... So... no... cure won't come soon I think. Maybe first thing they will discover is a HIV vaccine but only working on negative people not to become positive. That is another cash flow, ladies and gentlemen.
And after this vaccine  - then in some years the cure might come.
And When? Only BigPh knows the answer ;)

I know a lot of this has been said by others.

But the first month I found out I was obssesed with a cure to be honest me and the husband looked at everything. and I do mean EVERYTHINg. we chased every little link online we could get are hands on hoping for an answer.

Now granted that was just a month ago I was diagnosed Jan 8th.

This month I hardly think about it.  I'm living life taking advantage of things I missed out on. occasionally I come on here to see what new meds are coming out, or in testing.  I dont get my hopes up like I did last month.

My theory now on a cure is one that i'm not waiting for it or holding my breath I gegt hopeful here and there. But the cure could come from anywhere.  They could be testing something else entirely and have a lightbulb go off over there head.

Wether it comes tommorrow or decades from now. I'm gonna keep living my life and loving every second of it.  That's the best anyone could do.

Right on! I feel you! I was the same way. Everyday I would search google or yahoo. Now I come online once or twice a week looking at the forums on research. I have and am learning to cherish life and to live life more abundantly. I realized that it was time to start living life and that I needed to stop preparing for death. Keep hope alive because a Cure... a REAL CURE IS ON THE WAY!! JUST BELIEVE!!  :)

Hi !  I hope this cheers somebody up . I just saw on the news that investigators  lead by Josep Maria Gatell at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona have discovered why some sero positive people are elite controllers.
It is because they segregate a superior level of alfa defensive molecules which suppress the progress of h.i.v. infection.
Which means we will not have to continue taking antivirals though we shall still carry the virus.
They are now going to discover how to stimulate the segregation of these molecules.I know they will accomplish this in the not too distant future.
