Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

I don't know which test I took.

Dear sirs:

At the three month mark after a risk encounter (protected anal and unprotected oral sex with a transexual prostitute), I took an Oraquick HIV test at a clinic and my result was negative.

It wasn't the In Home Test Kit. The packaging and everything seemed to be the Oraquick Advance, but here's my question:

The device used to swab my gums does NOT say "Advance". It looks exactly like the device in this link except that it doesn't say "Advance": http://www.orasure.com/products-infectious/products-infectious-oraquick.asp

Therefore, I'm wondering what test I took. I'm worried it was an earlier version or something that may affect the accuracy of my test. It did say it expired in 2018 or so, so it hadn't expired or anything like that.

Could you please shed some light on the product I used?

Hi Fellow . I cant say with certainty what test you used since there is no way for me know after the fact but I can say that a HIV clinic would not use a test to screen for HIV if it were not effective . I think you are worrying for nothing , I'm sure of it in fact .

I would trust that the test was accurate but if you need assurance then the clinic you tested at is who you should address your concern with , we cant advise more than that on this matter .

You are worrying for nothing really , the test is accurate and you should trust the results .

You didn't have a risk to begin with so rest assured you are HIV negative .

You have had a perfect storm of HIV testing.

You had no risk.

You took a reliable test.

No reason to worry further.
