There has been some similar talk here in south Florida as well. The push from several communities in Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach communities ipropose spitting the state into 2 Florida's; North and South, with South Florida becoming the 51st state. The rationale being political differences, but most importantly, the amount of government funding these three counties receive in relation to the amount of taxes payed by residents.

I remember back around 2000 or so a state senator from north Florida proposed the same, but on different matters. He stated in south Florida we speak over 100 languages. We don't speak like those up in north Florida. He referred to this area as the bibles Sodom and Gomorrah. Likewise, we in south Florida feel similarly about our northern neighbors referring to the northern part of the state as Georgia on vacation.

It would be interesting if Texas did secede. When the US pulls out their military bases and federal support good luck dealing with the Mexican government and the area drug lords.

Texas will secede, along with Alaska, and they will create a far-right fascist oil cartel and free trade-zone with Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Russia.  Iraq will join with Libya, Venezuela and European countries for a socialist oil cartel, joined by California, which will not sucede but demand autonomous status.
California and Texas will become extremely rich.

New York City will secede and become a city state, and global tax haven. Several other large cities will become city states and tax havens for the global super rich.  They will be gated communities, like in Soylent Green.

A transexual (male to female) lesbian will be elected Miss Universe but fail in her bid to pop star fame.

There will be a tacky monument erected in DC to honor President Barack Obama and his successor President Michelle Obama.

Carrie Fisher will play Jabba the Hut in a remake of Star Wars.

On his death bed, Tom Cruise will profess his life-long love for Will Smith.

The governor is no longer popular and is saying anything to bolster his campaign.  Though regardless of who wins, the state will lose.  Kay Bailey is just as stupid as Rick Perry.

All Texans are raised to believe that we could leave the Union if we so choose.  It's nonesense.  No state can leave the US.  And the only special right Texas has is that it could, should it choose to do so, break up into 5 states.  Not quite as exciting as saying we could leave at any time.

Damn, makes Bill Richardson look good, doesn't it?

If Texas were to secede, we would want our territory back - and all deals regarding water would be off.

Let's see those damn texans try to farm the high plains without our water.

Hehehehehe  ;D

And even that would necessitate the approval of Congress, so it's a bunch of BS that Texans are sold at birth as well.

With a bit of luck, the United States of America will secede from Planet Earth.

I would love to split Texas into 2 states if I could determine the border between the East and the West. East Texas has a baaaaad reputation for crap like this:

Texas, Vermont, California, Florida, Alaska, S Carolina, whatever... they all have their own secessionist movements.  The US fought a pretty big war to keep states from seceding.  It's not ever going to happen unless all of them do.

No one takes this seriously.

Texas governor Rick "Big Hair" Perry has no intention of seceding from the United States.  As Cliff points out, it's just a campaign ploy to paint himself as a Texas "insider" and his likely opponent, Kay Bailey Hutchison, as an outsider.

If he does have any intentions of seceding, he certainly didn't act that way when he requested a large number of doses of flu vaccine from the federal government.   ::)

Henry

Yes, having cash to buy a car isn't completely unheard of, especially if the seller doesn't trust the authenticity of a personal check or a money order and the buyer doesn't trust wiring the funds in advance of picking up the car.

But that's really besides the point.  If there was more to the story, stealing the cash is the wrong way to find out!
