WHat should I do?
« on: September 08, 2007, 09:17:17 am »
I have been poz for 10 years. Excellent health. My T Cells have never been below 1200 and non detectable viral load. As of Friday, my T Cells were 1490. When I was diagnosed 10 years ago my doc immediately put me on meds ( T Cells were 1200 then too). I recently moved and my new HIV doc went thru my medical records and said that you are put  on the meds if your T Cells ever fall to 500 or below. My doc pulled me off my meds as of yesterday. Has anyone else had been in this situation? My doc said that from my records and health that I wouldn't have to go back on the meds for at least 9 to 12 years from now unless something major happens. I have spoke to several Friends who are poz and they told me to talk to a malpractice lawyer because they think being on the HIV meds for so long could possibly do or have done some damage to my system.
Any suggestions?

No suggestions, but you need to check all the infromation you can about LOng Term Non-Progressors.  You are apparantly one of these kinds, but at ten years, the jury is still out.  It is not unsual for someone with a very healthy immune system to not have a CD4 dip for over 10 years.

Malpractice?  Why?     Does your life, body, and immune system have the stamina to go through a long drawn out litigation that only has  a minor chance of anything coming out good for you.  I think that malpractice is difficult to prove if you don't have a bad outcome from the decision that was made.  You certainly don't have a bad outcome, as your immune system actually is in healthier shape than it was when you started meds.  It wasn't unusual in the past for doctors to prescribe meds first and ask questions later.

Love,
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

I would agree with Moffie. Why waste time in court when it seems nothing has been harmed. Has your doc said anything about something wrong? It sounds like to me you are doing great. I've been with this virus for 10 years and since my cd4 dropped to 215 has to start meds. It really depends on the doctor, I guess. With your numbers being the way they are consider stopping your drugs as a drug holiday. Again I say let the court thing go, why waste your time and money as well as the courts time. Go out there and enjoy yourself.

I don't know but this seems like one of those if it ain't broke, don't fix it kind of situations. I would like a better explanation from my doctor before I stopped my meds. I'm not sure this rises to the level of malpractice, and if that were the case all of us LTS would be suing for the awful monotherapy of AZT we were put on back in the day.

Have you ever gone to court to sue someone? IF not, talk with someone who's sued anyone about anything first. Then, envision what it is you really want AFTER your current doc tells you whether you've been damaged.

If you don't need to sue, let the already clogged legal system accommodate someone who really does need to be having their day in court that much more swiftly. Count your lucky stars that your immune system has been holding court on your behalf and keeping the HIV thugs at bay.
