What a screwed up day!
« on: October 04, 2007, 01:56:35 am »
Last night I waited till 12 midnight for my SSI check to be deposited into my savings account. Well I logged on as usual, but something was wrong no savings account was there. Went to my bank this morning and they had canceled my savings account because there were no money in  my account. So the lady at the checking counter called the main office to find out where my check was it was there and they went ahead and deposited it into my checking account. So then the lady says your money is in your account and I said thanks. Came back home and paid a few bills on-line noticed the check had been deposited.

Went back to my bank withdrew some money out to pay for my title loan. Paid that off. Went to spend the day with my sister and left and was coming home and thought I better stop and get some gas for my car. Pulled into the station to get gas and my check card would not work. Went in and the attendant said she had a drive off recently and for me to pull ahead and use the next pump. Filled the car up with $25 worth went back to pay the attendant my card declined. I was shocked did not have any cash on me. Thought oh shit I am going to get arrested. Called my sister and she brought me my money to me form her bank and paid for the gas.

Got home logged on the computer went to check my account and there was no check ever deposited? ???

Now I have all these bills that I have paid and now it is saying I'm in the hole. ::)

If it isn't one thing it is a million things that could go wrong today.

UGHHHHHHHHHH

Banks are such funny institutions. Something similiar happened to my roomie a few months ago. More than likely even though you went into an office branch and they reopened your account, it still usually takes some time for it to show up online or for a bank card. You will prolly have to get another bank card. I would go back to the branch you went to and properly bitch.

Sounds like you've had an overload of stress.  At the credit union I've been using for the past 10 years, my check doesn't show up on my account until like 8:30 a.m.  At the bank I was with before the credit union, it always showed up at midnight.  Different strokes for different folks (banks).

It might just take awhile before your check is posted to your account.  But I would definitely talk with the bank so that the checks you wrote out for your bills don't bounce.

What an ordeal!  It's a harsh way to learn about bank policies concerning zero balances. Happen to me once. Left an account inactive and the small balance was used up by monthly banking fee. I was inbetween jobs and it took a couple of months to finally get monies flowing again. When I tried to deposit the second payroll check I received, the account had been closed.
Lesson: Never allow balances to get too low. To avoid this in the future, ask one of your bank managers of the specifics of the minimum balance required. Jerry, it helps to understand they (banks) have blanket policies in effect for some occurances. i.e. If an account sits too long at zero without activity = terminate account.
Seems to me you took appropriate measure to prevent this, though. sorry it happened to you.

Hey Jerry

Sucky day for sure. Here's the part that confused me...
Came back home and paid a few bills on-line noticed the check had been deposited.

How could it have been "un-deposited" or removed from your checking account? That's what I would ask the bank. You would not have gone ahead to pay bills had you not seen the deposit had occurred.

If you incur ANY return check fees or Insufficient Funds fees, the bank should be the one to pay. I would get this part addressed asap with a bank branch manager.

Hope it's smoothed out for you today.
Em

Well the fought was with the bank someone did not post the memo that the money was deposited in my account. Have been on the phone with them all morning dealing with this and they told me they were to blame and were sorry for there mistake. I just love it when the customer is right and the computer system was wrong. Someone did not see that it was posted and just claimed that my account had no money in it.

Everything is fine now and I will not have to pay any surcharges for the checks that I had paid yesterday. I no longer have the savings account for now on direct deposit will just go directly into my checkings account.  8)

Jerry, if you do decide to switch banks, see if you can talk to other people in your area who get their checks direct-deposited about when it goes in.  Like others said, every bank is different.  For example, I know the corporation I work for sends all the deposits at once, but my DDs (direct deposits, not tits) hit my savings account at the credit union at 12:01am Thursday and my checking account at another bank about 3:30-4:00am on Friday.  Good to know if you want to select a bank where you'll get your money ASAP, but it sounds like you just want the peace of mind to know when, for sure, it's going to happen.

Glad you got it straightened out!  Mucho satisfacion when the customer is right!  ;D
