To the land of the Irish
« on: August 15, 2014, 11:57:51 am »
Well I'm 2 hours from boarding my flight to go meet Irisheyes, nervous as all get out but oh well, when you talk as much as we have in 6 months it really feels like I'm just meeting an old friend. But still the nerves are there! Thank god for anxiety meds lol. I'm sure you'll hear reports from me on here throughout the weekend, I'm excited for my first manicure. *sigh* not excited about the heat! Anyways, as per usual I hope you all have a great weekend, I'll keep you updated, who was it that was hitting on him again, crap I can't remember....

Nervous? What am I missing here. Irish Eyes told us he has a partner.  ???

He does have a partner, he is in the closet. No nothing is happening between us, just friends. I was nervous to fly 100's of miles to visit someone I had never met in person and stay at their house. Now, that nervousness is gone and my bum still intact so I can assure you all is well so far, without sex. Palm Springs though, gay freaking Mecca! It's crazy, I absolutely love the culture here, hate the heat, and the humidity, but the culture is nice, and Irish is an absolute gentleman, if only he'd let me pay for some freaking thing! I've pulled out my wallet several times only to argue at the table, I've now given up and simply say thanks. He has successfully been eating since I've been here, although only because it's practically forced and I need to eat to keep my errr physique shall we say? Lol as for last night, headache has subsided after we stopped and got me appropriate pills, thank god. Today I got a tour of all surrounding cities. It's been lovely, I did just get my flight alert that I'll be flying home tomorrow at this time. I checked into my flight too. I'll have to come visit again in the winter.

Good to hear you've had a swell time. Palm Springs is gorgeous!  Is this the first time you've visited a sort of gay resort like that?

Yes the Latin is in Europe, totally aware of me entertaining this weekend, though he did mention prior to Absos arrival that that he was angry with me as I would be entertaining and he was adamant to see a photo of Abso, Thanks for google search of Columbian male models and cut and paste. ;)

Yes, I can honestly also say I've only been to a gay club a handful of times, not counting here, I have maybe 2 gay friends. lol

You need to get out more! Where do you live?

My family went to Provincetown when I was a boy, the late 60's 70s.  I never experienced a cold landing in a hot gay resort cause of that. It was all gradual for me.  My dad made snarky comments about the tutti-fruttis but i was so young I didn't understand much - just that there were effeminate men.  My dad wasn't much of a hater he made snarky jokes about all different people, except never blacks.  There were lots of hippies around where I grew up and my dad would make hippie dippie jokes but he would also always pick them up hitchhiking was very kind to everyone to their faces... His jokes weren't mean, i think they were eye-rolling and remarks about difference from the "normal".   I started clubbing in the 80's in NY before I realised I was gay or at least before I came out to myself... When I finally came out I moved to SF so then I remember the Stud as being the first place I haunted as a gay guy.  The Castro was a kind of sad place because of the AIDS bomb.  I went to Key West and it was the same feeling. Later I went to Key West in the 90s and it was lovely.  I moved back to New York and would go out to Fire Island - I don't even remember my first time out there.  Lots of hot sex was had, that I remember!  I started going to Ibiza but that never felt terribly gay, just party party party....
I think Ptown is quite beautiful and has a good atmosphere.  If you can finagle a visit there, highly recommended!!! The only downside is, its so expensive that mostly its a certain kind of people and thats less interesting....  The worlds best gay resort doesn't exist for me because its more like a good chunk of gays at an other wise very mixed place and a little bit scrappy please.  I've never been to ft. lauderdale maybe I'd like that.

Except one is in the desert surrounded by mountains and canyons, and no sea.  The other is a beach town on a barrier island once surrounded by swamps? ??  :o

Lol I was speaking of the accepting gay culture. I believe Fort Lauderdale is just much larger. Weekend is over, now I'm at the airport just waiting for my flight in an hour. And now they're changing our gate. Ugh!

True and true.
Is there an issue ?
Growing up in a large family, from an early age you quickly learn to play 'the need to know' game.
I've got it down to a T :) and workin it well for the last year since meeting The Latin.

There's no "issue" with you Irish. It was my old man misinterpretation (or perhaps gullibility to a deliberate tease) of abso's first post in this thread. He seemed to be fluttering about like an excited virgin bride a few hours before the consummation.

Not at all, says he.

Well there were a few virginities taken while I was away in Palm Springs.

Eghhem! Get your minds out of the gutter! I got to drive my dream car that Irish selfishly owns, but allowed me to drive. I got to eat at nice restaurants, I got hit on at a gay club, I felt....normal. I truthfully forgot about DX most the weekend, I felt like me.

I did flutter around like a virgin because I had never met Irish, so Mecch, fly to Sacramento, and we can meet, a bit of nervousness must ensue I'm sure!! Now considering I haven't been a virgin by any sense of the word in many many years, it makes me think back to how I wish I was, but then I'd have never met you guys, that would suck, I know you all just can't fathom your lives without me.

Palm Springs, gay freaking Mecca! I'll have to come visit again in the winter.

Thankfully my pilgrimage to Mecca requires all of 2hrs of air-conditioned comfort and blaring EDM.

Abso,  though you are more than welcome to visit in the winter, your Hajj will be dependent on The Latin as he will be attending school (as senior LOL) and sticking close to home (i.e. minimal international travel).
NB you know he doesn't bite. (well actually, he does. Damn agresiv top).

Hmmm. Perhaps you could visit on a school night. ;) :)
Perhaps I could put him out to work in SD, and keep him busy so we can party.

Watz up NTM ?  The more the merrier. lmao.

Why are you 2 broadcasting whatever this is on the Forum if you don't want us busy bodies poking around, hmmm?  :o    Its a bit unseemly to be asking us to witness a deceit. I mean.

And what if your partner reads these threads... I dunno.

I'm the biggest whore since Sioux City Sue but whats going on between you 2 is far from clear.  As I said, I'm also an old fart who doesn't understand this digital communication style, either...

Mecch, 'you all bein played ?'.
Abso started it, I embellished it.
It's all a rouse.

Its a bit unseemly to be asking us to witness a deceit.

No deceit here, I ain't got nuffin to hide from nobody (other than my status).
I've said before, I'm 100% monogamous.
Nothing has nor shall interupt my commitment to The Latin.
(Yes, The Latin is an escort. Yes, he is smokin' hot. Yes, he's… Yes yes and yes).

Abso has become a friend via phone and text and we have helped each other immensely through these first few months since dx. (though I'm certain I helped him more than him helping me. LOL).

He wanted to meet. I agreed. It meant more to him than me.
As I'm not out, there was no way we were meeting in San Diego.
I have a place in Palm Springs sitting empty so that's where we went.

And what if your partner reads these threads... I dunno.
The Latin knows I post here, but any time I've mentioned it, he dismisses it immediately.

Quote, "Half the people online are mad and the other half are crazy".

If he has read my posts he has been very quiet about it.
Perhaps because what I've posted is all true and with humour.

If it's of any consequence Abso is young enough to be my son.

Why are you 2 broadcasting whatever this is on the Forum if you don't want us busy bodies poking around, hmmm?

Anyone got a question, jst ask.
(Poking busy bodies welcome LOL)

The following to be read as humour.

N.B. It was neither Abso nor myself that led orig post off on a tangent, and I'm not naming names, but I think ZACH was the instigator. LOL

If you read entire thread excluding the above named responses, it's a totally different read. Friendly, humourous, lighthearted, endearing, just a beautiful story of 2 friends meeting.
Insert Zach's responses and it becomes SMUT (LOL) irreverent, cheating, kniving, and sneaking about.

Zach, we all know your the bestest. Glad you're well. But keep your nose out of our bidness. LOL

Haha so true, on the off chance our pug decides to play, tons of toys, he'd rather play with a piece of paper. Lol! Our other dog literally will just eat the toys.

I spent hundreds of dollars on dog toys and her favorite was milk jugs and plastic grow pots.
I used to buy stuffed animals for her to rip apart but that made her think her dog bed was to be shredded too .

Sorry for the diversion ... this thread is supposed to be about Irish and Abs unrequited love and the denials that followed .  Irish you can think of abs as your Ménage à twink .

What's a generation? Every 10 years, a newish one? 15? 20?  I'm a teacher who observes there's a generation or maybe 2 who have very poetic freestyle punctuation and do not switch registers between texts for the professor in their B.S. programs and texts on social networks...

September is coming up and its going to be November before almost everyone is on the same page, writing paragraphs and using punctuation recognizable by the French Academy or Strunk & White.

Most can switch and know the rules.  Some are too lazy to bother, but could.  Some don't know the sentence and paragraph rules. Many are weak in punctuation.  A good chunk don't understand register and different audiences.

On the flip side, ossified bitter profs aren't always good at dialogue and finding the tasks that will encourage "the learning".  Some say "it's not our job." "I teach network security, not communication"  Weren't the students supposed to have learned all this in their obligatory schooling? So is it any college teacher's right to ask for it, or responsibility to teach it, or take time to reactivate that old file that seems to be on a clunky old slow USB 2.0 drive buried deep under layers of SSD synapses created on social networks?

Not to mention the Pandora's Box that is intellectual integrity.

___

Anyhoo this is a social network so anything goes.  ;D I often don't understand the registers and intents in emoticon and other social network lexis and syntax. For example I can't always identify a sincere emoticon use, from a communicative one, or a sarcastic/ironic one, a meta, or a random one.

I catch acronyms slowly, behind the curve for sure.

Eventually I know I will have to Google Map death hike myself up a 3D isolated mountain peak and virtually self-sacrifice, like old superfluous folks in traditional cultures. Useless, demodé, burdensome...  :-[
