Steroids
« on: December 07, 2006, 11:48:39 pm »
I was just wondering... The purpose of perscribing steroids to HIV+ patients is to increase their energy/libido thats lost because hiv lowers free testosterone levels, but is it also prescribed for difficulty in gaining weight for someone not on meds?

I know im only 23 but i go to the gym often, eat healthy and frequently, have adjusted calories all the time, yet i still dont seem to gain much muscle mass. It seems that my reason for wanting to get prescribed steroids is more for vanity, but its not. I know that the body functions better with more muscle mass and improves immune function, and if i ever get sick then ill have more muscle mass to spare and wont waste away as quicklly (which would help in recovery)

Do doctors prescribe them frequently to all age groups ? and has anyone had any expierence with them (when legally prescribed) and what were the results?

thanks

Josh,

I had the problem of not picking up weight either and when I started gym 6 months ago I started using protein shakes and creatine the one bit of advice I can give you is to get supplements it does help I have gained from 139 pounds to 168 pounds on these supplements I train 5 times a week for an hour to an hour and a half. The products I use is either USN or EAS ask atyour fitness centre where you can buy these products.

A healthy body generates a healthy mind and a healthy outlook to life

Love and peace

Thanks for the response..... Yea i take creatine and shakes already but still have problems....i mean i will continue what im doing because i guess it has to be doing good and no harm i just was wondering about the steroids since i know they are prescribed regularly to hiv patients....

It just sucks that you work months and months and months trying to build muscle to be healthy and you get sick for 2 weeks and all that work down the drain and then your underweight again

Right now im at a healthy weight i suppose so no biggie ;-)

Another thing you can also do is to get yourself Vit. B12 and B- Complex and inject yourself once a week while using the steroids it also helps when traing. I have been using the vitamins now for 4 months and this is the time a gained more in lean muscle but I don't do the steroids only the supplemants and vitamins. If you can inject yourself is to ask your pharmasist or medical worker to do it for you. But only once a week 1 ml of each

Hiv+ most times have a significant deficiency of L-Glutamin (although this is a very important amino-pept.): I have had similiar problems like you (training hard and no muscle-crow) and the substitution with L-Glutamin (about 35 gr./day) helped me to gain about 10 kg of muscle-mass the last 6 month ... I think this will be the better way than a substitution with testosteron (which includes the risk, that the body stops his own production of testosteron ...).
If you take Creatine it will be good to let check your nephritic-datas ...

I agree because I am also using glutamine peptide, protein shakes, muscle fuel, weight gain, shock therapy before training, creatine as well as vit. B12 and B complex and when I started, I weighed 63 kg I am now weighing 77 kg after six months using these supplements and still counting and have started cutting and must say it feels awesum. Also try not to carry alot of stress with you because when i stress I lose weight and it is not as if I want to lose it now. Also warm your muscles up before weight training.

Doesn't vit b12 and b complex work well in timed release pill form?  You can get that anywhere.

Im still trying to find ephadrine that they took off the market awhile back.  I heard its coming back.  It helped me LOSE fat.  I have the muscle...but its sort of buried under about 15 lbs of fat.  Any idea how to get rid of that?

I've been prescribed and am taking Nandrolone (steroid) via injection once weekly.  It caused my testosterone to dive way down, so I was also, then, put on Testim (testosterone gel) daily to compensate.

The reason Nandrolone was prescribed me was due to low weight, though my appetite and eating are good.  I've been poz since 1989 and also have wasting.  In the last three months between doctor's appointments, I gained six pounds, which is a lot for me, especially in a three-month time frame.  So it has to be the steroid which caused the weight gain.  I'm 6'0" and went from 139# to 145# and of course hope for further weight gain.

It took some time for me to be able to inject myself (long syringe since it's given intramuscularly in the thigh) without having major anxiety, but I've finally gotten over a good part of that.  Of course, I could have driven to the medical center once a week to have the injection done for me, but personally didn't want to give in to that.

The absorbtion of vit b12 in normal pill form (also time released) often is a real problem because at many hiv+ people the encyme, which is necessary for its metabolism, is absent in their stomach - so I've made good experiences with vitb12-pills which are taken by dissolving under tongue (sublingual) ...

Thanks for your responses. I think i will pick up some L-Glutamine considering I havent tried that supplement (one of the few i havent tried). Unfortunatly I havent been to the gym all since saturday (Im coming down with soemthing and dont feel alll that great lol), but Ill pick some up today.

To the the guy wanting ephedrine I honestly wouldnt reccomend it. Its not good for you (trust me i know i used to be a crash dieter and it makes you so wired you dont sleep right and its no good on the nerves..but thats just my experience).....I used to love the stuff though i have like 8 bottles somewhere here in my house hahahaha i stocked up before it went off the market but decided i was better off without that stuff.....Now i dont take a fat burner because that would be counterproductive lol

Jeffrey,

I'm being monitored for both the Nandrolone and Testim.  At my appointment Tuesday I was told my RBC (red blood count) is high and the doctor feels it's one or both of the aforementioned medications.  He may cut my dosing of both down which may bring the RBCs back into reference range.

I hope I can continue on both of them as they've helped with weight gain.  Thanks for the info.
