Travel outside of the US

I know this has been a topic in the past but I can't seem to track it down.
My question is about travel restrictions, etc, for us pozzies.  I am scheduled to travel to Canada and then Japan (from US) in Feb.  I am just concerned about my meds and being HIV+.  Can anyone give me any info or advice about traveling to these countries?

Pip,

You should be fine with both Canada and Japan.  The below link hasn't been updated since 2006, however I don't believe they have tightened restrictions in those countries.

I am often confused when I see this topic come up.  I travel alot and I am POZ.  I have been to about 20 countries and I have NEVER had a problem. India, China, Singapore... the only time that you possibly will have a problem is if you are asking for more than a tourist visa.  Otherwise, don't ask, don't tell.  As far as meds go?  I have NEVER had anyone question any of my "stuff" that I carry with me.  Maybe I am just lucky, but if you keep it in a bottle other than the prescription, no one knows. It is not what they are looking for... don't worry about this.. go anywhere you want and enjoy your trip! 

One thing though is that you often can get blood work and other stuff for a much cheaper price than in North America... for example a v/l and cd4 in Bangkok is less than 30 USD.  I have been tested in Thailand and India and many other places when the time comes, but even then, people don't seem to care about what you have, just that you pay the money....

Traveltramp,

If you look at the link I provided, you will see most countries don't have travel restrictions for those who are HIV+ which is probably why you don't have any trouble.  You are correct that even those countries with restrictions, it is unlikely to be caught.  However, just like dealing with HIV itself, it is usually better to be forewarned than to find out by accident at customs.  We have had a member of these boards who had such an issue in their travel to the U.S.  and I'm certain they would disagree that it always simple or without repercussion.

I can assure you you'll have no hassle coming up here to Canada. My only advice is to bring lots of warm clothing. Lately it's like living at the north pole around here.

Some also have travel restrictions but they aren't rigidly enforced. Thailand is a good example of this (And thank goodness they aren't!)
