Okay I finally went ahead and joind the Grid...I registered, downloaded, and selected a project and team. Now what? Do I have to leave the compture on as much as possible? Does the system start to use my computer automatically? And, when it's running, do I see it, and can then avoid using my computer for high-use processes? So many questions, lol. J.

Site appears to be down at the moment.  I sent them an e-mail to let them know.

I'm a little confused, I selected the fightaids@hom project only, but as soon as the interface opened it started working on the genome comparison project. And I did not select the option to be redirected to an alternate project if my chosen on wasn't running. So why is this on right now? J.

That's weird it's down again....they must be having trouble with the servers. At least I was able to get in and register. I'm sure they'll fix it shortly.

Gotta tell ya it feels good to be able to help this way! It's also exciting, you get to see exactly what the actual problem is and the work being done to solve it. Cool!

I did it through the World Community Grid, the link is in my tagline.

It allows you to customise which projects you want/don't want to work on, and gives you points for each completed assignment. It also allows you to join teams and stuff. It works flawlessly in the background whenever I have my computer on.

Good luck to everybody trying.

Are you working from the worldcommunitygrid.org website? If you are, then just check the box marked FightAIDS@Home and also make sure you are not checking any boxes that allows them to send other stuff to your machine - like the muscular dystrophy stuff.

Sometimes there isn't any work for a particular project, but I've never experienced this with the AIDS project, in over a year of running the program. I have something going right now - so there's stuff there, waiting.

I got it running this morning on my MacBook Pro, iMac G5 20", Power Mac G5, Intel iMac 17", and Power Mac G4 Dual 500.  Right now the MacBook Pro and the Intel iMac are the fastest machines at doing data.  This is acutally a cool project and much more worthwhile than Seti at Home.

Well, mine is running the fightaids@home project now...excellent!

From the project description:

"Your machine is finding how well one of many potential drug molecules fits into the pockets of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Protease. The best molecules found will be lab tested, and could lead to new drugs in the fight against AIDS."

That's a lofty goal, I hope it works, or at least it helps in some way! J.

Look at it like giving blood without the needle stick and the dr visit!

Mine still works on muscular distrophy, I've quadruple checked my settings, and I dont' see how to change that.

"Your computer is calculating protein-protein interactions with particular focus proteins that play a role in neuromuscular diseases."

Windoz. I will take a closer look this week-end. I'm happy to help for muscular distrophy anyway, it's done 10%, i'll let it go.

Cool I was going to suggest that.  I have a friend from High School that has that.  He is a awesome young man.  Makes me know I can handle my HIV.

I made the same mistake and didn't uncheck all the default programs, so right now doing Muscular Dystrophy.

Next one should be HIV/AIDS.

Does AidsMeds have a team?

Thanks,
Mauricio.

There's a team called "HIV+" which I joined - it's not huge, about 9 members. It'd be great to see some new faces.

I'll wish AidsMeds had their own team. :(
I'll join HIV+ too !!! :)

Wow Muscular Dystrophy sent a really hard one to my laptop. After an hour it's still at 0% (but working away).  I have a Pentium M 1.7GHz with lots of memory.

Cheers,
Mauricio.
