Title: concerned and frightened
Post by: mandyo on January 29, 2007, 01:03:31 am
i live in an apartment with another college student and learned recently that she is HIV positive.  my concern is this:  a week ago i used the restroom in the middle of the night, sat on the toilet seat without looking, and when i got up, i realized there was blood on the seat.  I have a problem with severe folliculitis on my buttocks and got some of this blood which was still wet on one of my bumps.  I did not feel too concerned at the time because i did not know about the HIV until yesterday.  i am beside myself with fear.  could i have acquired HIV from this incident on the toilet seat?  your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

NO, you can not get HIV off the toilet seat. Please read the "Welcome" thread and follow the links.

I'm in total agreement with Rod on this one. Your concern reveals a lack of knowledge about HIV transmission which no one can afford to have. This epidemic is going to be with us for a longtime to come. There are very likely others in your life who are HIV+ and you're not aware of it.

You need to read those lessons on Transmission and Testing and get that basic information down. That way you can protect your health from the real risks, enjoy your life and sexuality and spare yourself a lot of unnecessary worry.

Cheers,
