Tenofovir / Emtricitabine / Efavirenz
« on: July 28, 2011, 02:12:55 pm »
Hi all...

I have a question, for now my numbers are good, no need to take medecines for a time...

Anyway, I asked to my doc about available medecine and he told me that in my case, whan my number will be bad, the first treatment we should try is Tenofovir / Emtricitabine / Efavirenz, it is covered by the national program for HIV.

Do you know this kind of treatment?  Is it HAART?  What can you say about indeseable effects?

Yes, it's HAART.

Those are the same three drugs that make up the med called Atripla, which many people here take. You can read about them in the Treatments section of this website.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Val, they're not quite so expensive when administered as three separate drugs. They start getting more expensive when given as Sustiva/Truvada as the Truvada combination is newer, and same thing for the triple combo pill Atripla - the newer combo formulations always cost more. That's why you're getting them separately. I'm just glad some of the newer meds are available to you, instead of something like AZT. It's always good news to hear when developing nations are getting better meds.

I'm wondering - if you missed the Treatments section, did you also miss the Lessons section? Across the top of any forum page there is a grey bar with different drop-down list. From left to right, it reads Home, About HIV/AIDS, Prevention, Treatment, News, etc and they lead to different sections of this website. Check it out!
