Really no words...
« on: June 07, 2012, 09:44:30 pm »
Hi all,

Really no words can describe this period as it seems most of you know as I have found my way here and the pain that it has caused. My story is like so many that I have now been reading. Almost 7 weeks ago had an encounter with another woman who I have now idea what her status is other than I'm concerned about my judgment when I had too much to drink. I don't want to speak badly of her but of what I know lets just say I'm really worried. Wasn't smart at all.

I have 2 wonderful children and an ex-wife that I am trying to work things out with, well I may have really screwed it up. I had a condom break that I didn't stop for 5-6 minutes I'm guessing until I got my head together and stopped. 2 weeks later was traveling and started getting urgency to pee all the time, abdominal pain and cramps, testicle pain thought it was something like Chlamydia at first. Dry burning eyes. it was somewhat more humid there was sweating alot and always had to be in air conditioning but really was only 72 or less.

This went on for 2 -3 days then I started getting profound weakness in my legs felt like I ran a marathon if I walked up a small hill. not short of breath just muscles were not wanting any part of it. I would wake up and have stiff painful feet and ankles where it continually moved upward into my butt by the 6th day.Around then I started getting Nauseous and had to force myself to eat. At this point I really started worrying after I found a wart on my penis that I haven't seen in 20 years ( I had a few when I was younger and they had cleared). At that point started getting fatigue in the afternoon and would periodically just wipe me out for a few hours.

Weeks 2-7 where I am currently at I have been having less fatigue but picked up what seems to be Seborrhea Dermatitis itch head, nose eyebrows chin and inner ear, makes my face red and wax's and wanes. Seems I can't be in the sun very long now either get chilly afterwards and burning on my skin although I really wasn't out long. I felt every lymph node in my body scream though it doesn't seem like they are enlarged. Still have weakness in my legs although not as bad as it was. Still feel like my brain is in a fog most of the time.

I have been taking pro-biotics and prilosec which seem to have helped somewhat calm my gut although I still get cramps now and again and still have acidic stomach. My entire body itches, I have broken out in a few hives although at this point who knows if that's just stress related. I seem to sneeze at really weird times when it doesn't seem like anything could be doing it. I haven't lost tremendous weight like 7-9 lbs, which went pretty quick  but have really started to lose my butt which I have always had a good athletic body. Seems like my face is thinner as well. I feel like a pariah. I'm terrified.

I took a Elisa at 6 weeks exactly and was negative, but completely unsure how accurate that is. If I'm still symptomatic will it show negative whats my chances? I'm 44 does age make a difference to show positive. Please help, I don't know where else to turn.

You say you had "an encounter", can you be more specific?

I don't need another wall of text outlining your hurt feelings, anxieties and tummy upsets -- just what happened on that night 7 weeks ago.

Sorry, Im sure the community sees it alot , thought I had put that in but condom broke during intercourse but forgot the intercourse most important part for 5-6 minutes. Im sure you have seen it before but seems quite a bit more than tummy upsets have trouble walking alot of the time.  I tested negative at 6 weeks though but still very symptomatic.

We're not interested in your symptoms. They mean nothing when it comes to diagnosing HIV. A good proportion of people who go on to test positive have no symptoms of acute HIV infection at all. For those who do experience symptoms of acute infection, they are indistinguishable from the symptoms that many other viral infections cause.

That's why the acute phase is sometimes said to resemble a "'flu-like" illness.

Anyways, you did have a risk but it's a very small one. HIV is a fragile virus which is difficult to transmit, particularly from female to male. Your 6 week test result indicates that you are almost certain to test negative at the 3 month mark.

To confirm that result, you must test again at 3 months.

Other STIs such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea are far more common and transmissible than HIV and you should arrange to be tested for these if you've not already done so. These can also be asymptomatic, particularly in males.

Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread. It contains links to our lessons on HIV transmission as well as our posting guidelines.

all, posting an update.  I have 2 questions. Got a 7 week 1 day test and camee back non-reactive. Confused still though CDC says the majority of people with show antibodies 2 weeks to 8 weeks. Does this mean I cango poz in the next 6 days? I just found that the Mass Dept of Health and hotline says a 6 week test is accurate, I called them and they said unless you are immunosuppressed you will test poz by 6 weeks and you can hang your hat on it. they havent ever seen anyone convert after a 6 week negative. which is correct?

I am still feeling like crap, legs really weak having trouble climbing stairs, walking etc. started eed now getting pain and pressure  in my sinuses and headacehe, ear pain and teeth. sounds like sinusitis. has anyone else had these types of symptoms after ARS/PHI ?

thanks

Toivoa,

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

In over ten years of working on this forum, I have yet to see a six week (or more) negative result end up positive at the end of the official window period. I don't expect you to be the first.

You only tested a week ago - stop testing so much. Your results are not going to change, although you should confirm that at three months. Stop testing weekly - it's a waste of time, money and resources. Knock it off already.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Not for more hiv testing, but to find out what is actually going on with you. Whatever that may be, it is not hiv.

Well now I'm really freaking out had been trying to get the girl I had been with to test she has a boyfriend. She had agreed t get tested a couple weeks ago before while I was away on bisiness. First the says she didn't go, then it's we went we are. Egative. Then it's dont worry about thos results they don't mean anything you get tested.. So here I am feeling like complete shit now with a new sinus infection. I tested out to 9weeks now (sorry Ann) couldn't help it. Then went to a specialist to get a western blot and viral load. I'm pretty scared now waiting for these results I have all the symptoms now this and I will be a late converter....r

You need to stop bothering the girl to test and to quit focusing on her for the answer you want about yourself, Toivoa. Yours is the only HIV negative test that matters. And you are responsible for your own health. Remember that for the future.

With your 9 weeks negative already in hand there is every likelihood that you will continue to test negative at 3 months.

There is nothing HIV specific about your symptoms. If they persist you ought to discuss same with your doctor.

I expect you to come out of this situation ok.

Toiva,

Some specialist. Any specialist who actually knows what's what would not have given you a WB test - those are only done when a person has had a positive antibody result - and you haven't.

A good specialist also would not have run a viral load test on you with all those negative antibody results under your belt. I hope you're aware that depending on what sort of VL test was run (more commonly referred to as PCR tests in this context), you could very well get a FALSE positive result.

You were never likely to end up positive over this condom break and your eight/nine week negative is NOT going to change.

Cut out the drama already.

Andy your right, just thought she held a lot of the answers. Ann I'm really not trying to get any drama here, I'm just really scare I'm a parent and should have been more careful. I wasn't and now panicking that I've hurt everyone around me. I went down to the city to see a specialist that has over 700 patients in his care he ordered the viral load with WB I think for confirmation it comes back in a week and a half and I'm just losing it I feel like complete cramp cramps aches pains and now this sinus infection. Having a tough time seeing the forest from the trees. I feel like I'm going to be your first ever person to test Poz after 6 weeks sometimes I'm sure of it. Believe me I hate drama so if I was I apologize. I very much appreciate all of your help it's the only place I can come to. I just need your help and thank you for it.

Toivoa,

A Western Blot test is a confirmation test for a positive antibody test. It is not a confirmation of a viral load test.

And by the way, I've discovered your little ruse - you've also been posting today as chipj. As having more than one account is a bannable offense here - and you agreed to our Terms of Membership not once, but twice (where this rule is explicitly laid out) - I have no choice but to permanently ban you.

Your eight week negative result is not going to change, so you really don't need us anymore anyway.
