Title: What Are My Chances????
Post by: MizzShantel on September 07, 2007, 09:02:40 am

Well here's my situation.....on August 27 I had a sexual encounter with a gentleman I had been dating for the first time.I took all the right precautions
and used a condom for oral, and another condom for intercourse w/ lube.Anyways during intercourse something told me that something wasn't right so I asked the guy to pull out and he was very hesitant about doing so,so I pulled him out and noticed the condom was missing on the bottom half.
I immediately checked to make sure he didn't ejaculate in me and he didn't.I really think he purposely popped a hole in the condom( trust me I have a reason to believe this).Well I went to the doctor the next day and was prescribed the morning after pill, and was tested for standard STDs.My doctor says my chances of possibly being infected with HIV was low even if there was some  precum, and said not to worry to much and to wait 3 months and be tested.

Does anybody have any input? I'm seriously scared as hell and am somewhat angry because I did everything I was suppose to do to protect myself and this idiot popped a hole in the condom which makes me wonder why....was he purposely trying to give me a disease.I know a lot of sites and experts who are familiar with the virus say that it takes more than one time to infect someone but I'm still scared.

Shan,

Even if the bottom of the rubber was missing the fact that the top was still in place means you were protected during the sexual encounter. Thus you do not have to test as a result of this encounter.

Nevertheless, all sexually active people should have a full STD screen at least once a year. Twice is better. To arrange this, please talk to your doctor or local clinic.

Are you sure???? I was exposed to the tip of his penis, and the condom was rolled up to the base of his penis....So what about precum???Is that enough to infect someone with HIV.

Mizz,

From your first post, I also assumed (along with Matty) you were calling the end of the condom where the opening is the "bottom" of the condom. The "top" of the condom usually means the end where the head of the penis goes.

If the tip of his penis was exposed, you did have a risk although it is somewhat lower as he didn't cum. A lower risk is not no risk and so you do need to test.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, but a six week negative MUST be confirmed at the three month point.

I really don't expect you to end up positive over this experience but the only way to know for certain is to test.

Please read through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can be certain they are being used properly. A correctly used condom rarely breaks. You might also want to check out the information on the female condom (http://www.aidsmap.com/en/docs/6B8B1AB3-6C46-4EE2-9C34-9D53DF3ECE3E.asp) as it is a method of protection YOU have control over.

Thanks for the advice,I'm just trying to chill out and kill time till I am able to test.

But one more question,if the guy I was with was thrusting deep inside me to the point
he was touching my cervix would that make my chances higher of contracting the virus....

The level of risk wouldn't have been greater if he was reaching your cervix. The key point is that he didn't ejaculate. That significantly reduces the level or risk to you although precum is a risk, assuming he's positive -- which you don't know for sure to be so.

Given this was a single incident, that he was covered by a condom for at least a part of the time, I'd say the odds are in your favor that you're going to test negative.

During the waiting time stay productively busy. It will help to pass the time more quickly than you may imagine is possible.

Cheers.

Thanks

I'm getting to the point that I don't want to have sex at all. It's getting to a point where men don't want to use condoms and are going as far as poking holes in condoms....Where I live (which is Atlanta) there are too many men on the DL,even the Health Dept where I get tested warned me about it and said make sure you use condoms.I'm bisexual and for about two years I had a girlfriend and this was my first male experience, but anyways I go to gay clubs where theres men and women and I will have men still approaching me and asking me for my number. They have got to be joking!

Mizz,

Yes, I am aware that many men do not want to use condoms. However, I am not aware of any who would go so far as to poke holes in them.

As I mentioned to you above, check out the information on the female condom. They are a little fiddly to use the first time, but if you can use a tampon, you can use this condom. I suggest you try it, as they give YOU the control over your protection.
