Hi All
I was with the same (female) partner for 7 years, im male, heterosexual and circumcised
5 years ago we stopped using protection, we both went for screening first and were both negative for std's.
I recently found out that she had been cheating, and ended the relationship, a few weeks later i took a rapid finger prick test for hiv (since her negative test can no longer be relied upon). It was negative.
I have asked her to test, but she thinks im being ridiculous and obviously we dont communicate well now
However as i understand it the rapid test has a window of 12 weeks?
I have two possible exposures within that 12 week window
1) Full sex 5 weeks before testing... to make it worse her period started early during the act.
2) Spooning 3 weeks before testing, no penetration, but vaginal secretions dripped onto my penis.
I will test again at 12 weeks, but im trying to get an idea of how likely my negative is to turn positive?
Ive looked at the stats and they seem to say
a) 1 in 1000 Caucasian 'none drug using' women in the UK have HIV
b) even with menstrual blood present the odds of transmission are less than 1%, probably less for transmission to a circumcised male
c) The incident without penetration is even lower risk.
So, my chances of a subsequent positive test are low, probably less than 1 in 100,000
However im not sure, and may be misreading the stats? For some reason ive convinced myself the risks are high.

The only risk you had was the unprotected vaginal sex.
