Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Hi all,

I'm a little concerned over an incident that happened 11 months ago. I had unprotected insertive and receptive oral sex with a guy I just met. I couple of months passed since our encounter and I took a Oraquick test which came back negative (approximately 115 days after contact). While I have not been experiencing any significant symptoms I have been feeling very tired, which happens to be one of the symptoms listed on the CDC site. In my concern I reconnected with the guy and he told me that he was negative as of September this year. I know I might be worrying needlessly over this, but I cant shake that feeling that something is wrong. What are the chances of acquiring HIV through mutual oral sex? Thanks in advance.

The ONLY confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. That's it.

There was no risk nor any need for testing. However, by testing at more than 3 months (115 days) after the incident, you reliably confirmed that you are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

If you are feeling unwell you should discuss the matter with your doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with HIV.

Thank you for the quick reply, I do feel better now. In regards to the test, I've heard that a rapid oral test can be unreliable, have you come across any instances where the test gave a false negative after three months? thank you again :)

False positives are more common than false negatives.

You're HIV negative. You never had a risk to begin with. Let it go and move on with your life. Happily, HIV is not your problem.
