The MSNBC documentary, "Hubris" will air again Friday.  It was very good at recalling all the lies and the political environment at the time.  Of course, John Kerry and Hillary voted for the war, because they had presidential aspirations.  When discussing Hillary in 2016, I remember her vote.  But, the documentary just had a passing mention of the media's complicity.  I can still remember the presidential press conference, where hard hitting questions were asked.  For example, "Mr. President, how does your faith guide you?"  Really happened.  The war was good business for the media.  They had all their fancy graphics, with stats about the speed, technology, and firepower that each war plane had.  They were excited to be able to report live from a moving vehicle in the Iraqi desert.

If you bring up how Iraq was an illegal war and we were lied to, many yawn.  Or, they think you're a partisan nut, or conspiracy theorist.  I guess these are folks, who aren't political and don't follow the news.  Of course, repubs think you're nuts.  They believe the war was just.  Many believe we actually found WMD and that Saddam was involved in 9/11.  And, they believe liberation was always the goal, besides getting rid of all them nukes.

It is odd how repubs are now so concerned with getting involved in Libya and so concerned about drones, when they were all for preemptive war and the Patriot Act.  Never a peep about drones, when Bush was prez.  It would be nice to make decisions about war, based on facts, rather than which president is holding office at the time.

So, Bush and Company will never be tried for war crimes.  I was just hearing how Nixon had gotten to the Vietnamese, and got them to step away from an agreement to end the war.  He didn't want the war to end under a Dem.  I had never heard of this.  I did know how Reagan and Bush 41 got Iran to not release the hostages under Carter.  Our CIA was illegally tapping the phones of the Vietnamese ambassador, so they couldn't reveal the Nixon scheme that they had heard on the tapes.  Nixon's plan to end the war was bogus, so it went on several more years, with thousands more dying.  President Johnson had learned of the Nixon deal.  He is on tape, saying it was treason.  But, he lied and mislead as well.  My point is we didn't learn lessons then and I doubt we have with Iraq.  Americans would easily be herded like sheep again.

The constipated lame stream media was indeed lame. Greedily slurped up and distributed the slickish propaganda.  Hero Jessica Lynch, that was a good one.

But lots of people saw the bloody charade that was going to happen, before it did, during the buildup.

And it was certainly deconstructed well enough dozens of times over the decade.  One of my favourites:  Team America.  Alas, its always preaching to the converted.
