wasting body and solutions
« on: January 03, 2009, 08:09:34 pm »
Hi,

I am seriously and psychologically suffering from body wastage, mainly, hips, face, legs and arms. Does anyone know of any online shop where i can order some ( maybe underwear with foams, etc) to fill the sunken hips, so that pants can start looking normal?

I really feel pathetic when i look at myself on the mirror in jeans etc. Jeans which used to fill up so nicely, now it just hangs!

Please help.... cannot afford any surgery..

Apple, I'm sorry, I don't know of any shops like that.  I just wanted to wish you luck.

I am sorry too and do not know of any permanent solutions except plastic surgery. Perhaps someone else will be able to help you. But you can easily buy such underwear on ebay and other places:
http://www.sexybackups.com/
http://www.bottomsup.ca/?gclid=CKaYx87G9JcCFQ1TEAod0HZ6Cw
http://www.lovemybubbles.com/

I do not know where you live but just do a search for 'padded Underwear' and you will find loads

But I do have a friend I met at a conference here and we really got on and keep in touch, with the same difficulties and for the same reasons and has talked to me about how when it first started to happen it undernined her self confidence

But she has now taken another approach. i.e as it is fashionable to be thinner she can wear clothes that when she had a bigger bum, legs  etc she could not wear she now wears clothes that are very fashionable and edgy that she could not have worn before. i.e very tight clingy jeans/trousers etc long boots dresses that hang well on a small bum and legs and she has changed her make up and accentuates her eyes and lips - she does actually look very good

But I am sorry as this is probably not helpful to you as of course this depends on what size your top and everything else is and it does not solve facial appearance and it also depends on how you feel about yourself I guess?

and it is easy for me to suggest that as although I have thinner legs and butt than I have ever had in my life with no fat on my legs and not much on my rear, which I have been thinking since HIV may be for  the same reason - although I have never been on meds that do this my consultant has told me that for some just having HIV can change your body shape especially when you are older like me -

but the rest of me is far too fat especially my breasts which are bigger than they have ever been in my life - so I also now wear much tighter jeans than I have ever been able to wear - if they are too baggy I adjust them on the sewing machine and usually get trousers with Lycra in them - and try to make an asset out of my thin legs but this does not solve my disproportionally large top!

I just wanted to try to think of something that might help as I know it worked for the person I know and how you dress can really do a lot to mitigate any appearance difficulties. If yo do not have money enough for surgery, can you scrape up enough for a makeover?

i.e they do makeovers here in the UK - you have to pay for them but it is nothing like as much as surgery - that give you advice on clothes and makeup and hair to enhance any body & face shape etc and then to prove that it works the stylist dresses you and takes photos to remind you of what they have said about clothes to wear etc and a professional stylist may be able to come up with where you can buy such underwear with padding near to you.

Do you use this forum often? I have been away from the forums for a while so do not recognize you, but it really does help to talk to other women about loads of different concerns, so I hope you come back

Hi Apple,

You might want to have a read through the Lipodystrophy
forum as it sounds like that's what you're suffering from, rather than wasting. Lipodystrophy is the re-distribution of body fat. Sometimes it means having fat where you'd rather you didn't, like on the tummy or back of neck, and sometimes it means having an absence of fat, in places like your bottom, arms and legs. It's caused by some of the meds. Wasting is caused by untreated hiv infection and is much more easily reversed than lipo.

I seem to recall there was a thread in there somewhere that talked about just the type of product you're looking for. I'd look it up for you myself but I'm in a rush. Anyway, you'll find others in that forum who are going through the same as yourself.

Thanks ladies for your positive responses. Veritte, many thanks for the websites, will go through them and check. Well, i understand what you are saying about trying to focus some part of your body like face, other than the "affected areas". True, but sometimes, it just feels as if it too much effort! I hate putting om tight jeans or anything tight below because of my bloated upper stomach and size 40D bra cap.

Thanks for all the tips and words of encouragement. I guess, this serious low self esteem was partly compounded by the lack of interest physically by my husband has had over me and his insensitive remarks over my body changes. He has not been supportive at all. I used to have 46inch hip, now am 40inch, just to give an example.

I have been a member since 2004 actually, but i am an on and off member, i guess. I have not been active in 2008, but intend to be in 2009.

Ann, i will be waiting to hear from you when you have time. Thanks for the clarification on wasting and lipodistrophy.

This is one of the best sections of the forums. It makes one feel wanted and cared for.

Talk to your doctor. They have done studies on anabolic steroids and HIV+ patients.
