I took an Oraquick test last night...
« on: November 25, 2013, 07:04:12 pm »
And the result came back positive. I wasn't expecting it at all, I wasn't even that nervous! I hadn't had a whole lot since between my last test and this one so I figured I was fine and I had nothing to worry about...obviously I was wrong.

I'm wondering though, it's possible that I may have an STD...could another STD cause one of these test to create a false positive?

Welcome to the forum , sorry you need to be here . You will need to see your doctor and have the test confirmed by having a test called a western blot .

STD's would not give you a false positive . False positives do happen sometime so its important for you to follow up with the WB test . Are you pregnant ? sometime that can cause a false positive .

Did you have a risk by having unprotected vaginal or anal sex ?

I'm a gay male so not pregnant, no. I have had unprotected sex in the last six months or so, so I'm definitely at risk, yes.

I misread your name LOL . Michelle is what I was thinking . I hope you follow-up with the appropriate test asap . If its any consolation I have been living with HIV for over 30 years so if your WB comes back positive its not like you are going to fade away . You are not confirmed as HIV positive until you have that test done .

Would you want to slap me if I still wish you a Merry Christmas ?  ;)

I'm very sorry you are having this to deal with and although it feels rotten right now I promise that time makes it easier . I'm wishing you the best and I hope you stick around so that you can give and get support .

Well, that's some lousy news right before the holiday.  Sorry about your diagnosis.  How are you holding up?  It can be a shock to begin with, but does get better with time.  Welcome to the forum ...
