Please sign the petition (https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/fund-research-draco-mit-developed-drug-might-safely-and-quickly-kill-all-viruses-including-hiv/gDwVkjzv) for Government funding for MIT research for a Cure for Viruses.  The research is incredibly promising at this stage, but more research and funding are needed.   25,000 signatures are needed by April 28.  I don't see why we can't achieve that.  Please forward this information to everyone you know.

To read more about it click here: http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2011/antiviral-0810.html

Thanks

Puppy, your White House petition link is broken. It takes you to a 404 error - page not found.

Thank you, Ann.  I have updated the link.  Hopefully it will work now.

I have also included it here:

I don't see why we can't achieve that.  Please forward this information to everyone you know.

May I ask, who are you and do you have any relation to this research?  Just asking because its your first post to this forum and you are asking me to sign something and referring to "we" being able to do this.  Who is "we"?  Are you HIV+?

Hi Mecch,

I have no relation to the research.  I have a chronic virus, have been sick for 2 1/2 years, and want to see this and other research go forward.  It's hard for me to imagine why anyone wouldn't want the research done.  Thanks for asking.

...It's hard for me to imagine why anyone wouldn't want the research done.

Supporting or not supporting the research has nothing to do with wanting to know more about your motivations in asking us to sign an online petition.

This is your first post, and you are asking us to go sign something online (that had a broken link to begin with), by entering our names and contact information when we are linking from this site...get my drift? Oh and then you want us to send this to "everyone we know"....you kidding me?

It's natural to want to know more about this (i.e. you) before we spend time and energy (and trust) to do as you ask. So it's beyond me how you can reach that conclusion that we don't want the research done just because we are asking for more relevant background information.

I for one won't even click on a link from a first time poster, much less from someone who equates reasonable questions with a lack of desire for bona-fide research to go forward. We all want research to go forward....why do you think we're here??

an excellent reply J220. ;)
not to mention that when questioned the poster responded with the mysterious answer of "I have a chronic infection too". Fess up OP, whatcha got? Ummm, if memory serves me correctly HIV negative people shouldn't be posting in this forum anyway, only in the AII? and "Someone I love..."

The girl on Girls got herself HPV.
Gawker's snarky writers hate this show and did a good takedown of the drama of it all:

http://gawker.com/5906378/my-war-a-girls-recap?tag=recaps

Laurie Simmons' daughter dresses up like an 11-year-old hooker to go have sex with her woodworking actor, who is ravenous and manly and has pectoral muscles.

The next morning, Laurie Simmons' daughter gets a call from her gynecologist informing her that, like 50% of sexually active adults, she has contracted genital human papillomavirus. She accuses the woodworking actor of giving it to her. "Hold your roll!" he says. She holds it.

Someone says, "Oh yeah, have fun. Go Tweet that."

Laurie Simmons' daughter calls Brian Williams' daughter to tell her the terrible news about contracting the most commonly sexually transmitted virus on the planet. "I kind of can't believe that I'm saying this, but I have HPV, so."

Brian Williams' daughter cries. What if Laurie Simmons' daughter becomes barren on account of having contracted the most commonly sexually transmitted virus on the planet? It's all so unfair that Laurie Simmons' daughter, of all people, would contract a disease that one out of every two sexually active human beings will contract at some point in their lives.

Meanwhile, the Drummer from Bad Company's daughter has a babysitting gig. She is looking after the daughters of a documentary filmmaker. They are named Beatrix and Lola. Lola has written a novel about poverty, death, and AA.

Hell,
the italics are a snarky episode synopsis of the new HBO series Girls.  Starring the children of very rich people, playing characters (more or less themselves) who are bohemian post elite college underemployed or unemployed Brooklyn hipsters.  Not filthy rich but rich enough to live off moms and dads far far too long for the average american.   The show gets a lot of flac for its privilege, and its complete white washing.  In Ep 2, our heroine includes a story line about her lifelong fear of getting HIV which everyone around her just compounds with AIDS.  So it was weak that Ep 3 gives a bait and switch and gives her HPV,  - an icky STD sufficient to fuel some drama and self disgust by the elite navel-gazing whitie, but not all that serious, after all.
That was the point of the synopsis.

So its related to this thread because the OP has a "chronic virus"  and feels comraderie with us HIV+ people enough to implore us all to sign the petition to get Obama to pay MIT to cure all viruses.

I see.  Well why didn't you just say that!?
