nasty parasites
« on: July 21, 2008, 07:23:47 pm »
hi everyone I'm new to the site and just grateful that there is a forum such as this for infected people. i was diagnosed in Nov. of '07. because of my income bracket i was not able to receive   assistance for my meds. my insurance bluegrass/blueshield only pays 40% of my med cost, so i still had an out of pocket expense of about 1500 dollars a month. so my doctor and i decided that for the next 2yrs i get involved with a clinical study where my meds would be free, which i started on 7/17/08. my body is having a hard time adjusting to the meds, coupled with the fact that i developed the parasite crypto. before starting my meds my t-cells were down to 45. has anyone ever had to deal with this particular parasite before?

It's a hard bugger to get rid of with a shity immune system (pardon the pun). Stick with the antibiotics it make take several weeks to get rid of it.

hi yelknirb  (that's Brinkley spelled backwards right?)

Welcome to A.M.   Sorry about the crypto....it is a nasty bug, and nothing to play around with.   An episode of crypto and giarda combined put me in intensive care for 14 days in 1999 (along with other AIDS complications).

Hope you are able to get it cleared up, and start rebuilding that immune system!

Keep us posted on how you're doing

hugs, Alan

hey brinkley.  Welcome to the forums -- glad you found us, although I'm sorry you had reason to.  I'm sorry also that you're having to deal with intestinal parasites.

I had a long, tortuous history with nasty intestinal parasites (pre-dating my becoming positive), and though my doctor prescribed various medications in an effort to treat them, nothing cured the problem.  I'd be on some new antibiotic for twenty days or so, and things would get noticeably better, but then two weeks later, I'd find I was back at square one.  This went on for a couple of years, and I was at my wits end.  Through these forums, I found the following link:

www.jonkaiser.com/intestinal_parasites.html

I convinced my doctor to prescribe the medications specified (though he was skeptical and reluctant to prescribe all of them at once), and, lo and behold, they did the trick.  NOTHING ELSE would work for me.  If your problems persist, I'd suggest your considering raising this regimen with your doc.

Keep us posted.
