Title: Manhattan's Little Guantanamo
Post by: Val on November 22, 2006, 10:01:36 am
Now that the Democrats can more or less influence the U.S. Foreign Policy, it would be interesting to see all the Concentration Camps disappear.  Especially the one in the heart of the most civilized city in the U.S.A.!

And if by any chance they decided to act, I would like to read something positive about the shameful Concentration Camp of Guantanamo Bay, in Cuba!

The German philosopher, Hannah Arendt, stated that...""evils done to humans in the modern world begin by rendering people 'stateless', by moving them outside of any legal structure in which they are recognized as citizens with certain rights or have access to a legal system in which to contest their treatment."" The Bush Administration, I don't wanna say the United States, has headed down that path!

Some statistics:

---More than 600 prisoners incarcerated for nearly six years
---They are kept in small cages, with no charges against them, without access to the courts to challenge their confinement
---The U.S. illegally occupies that part of Cuba's territory which was leased ..."exclusively as coaling or naval stations and for no other purposes..."
---The list of tortures --- from the Dark Ages --- inflicted on the prisoners every single day is simply absurd and unacceptable.  They make Haditha and Abu Ghraib prison tortures look like a school playground
---The New York Times reported already more than 60 suicides among the prisoners

The Bush Administration has ignored The Geneva Convention Laws and any other kind of International Law implying that they are..."quaint."
The United States Supreme Court has ruled that the detainees at Guantanamo must have hearings.

Any hearings so far?  Just asking in case I may have missed something...
Anyway, I will start reading the U.S. press again!

They aren't going to do anything. They are now introducing a bill to reinact the draft.

Very Interesting, Val.....

Rod~~

Now they're trying to start a draft? So, now we won't even have a choice! That's just great.
