Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Condom Broke...Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Hey guys,

I feel SO awful right now! I met this adorable guy at this gay club a few nights ago. Tonight was the first time we had intercourse. All was going well. He was topping me, and I came first as he was inside me. We had safe sex. I am always careful, so imagine my horror when i put on some gloves, picked up the condom from the trash and I ran it thru the faucett.Water came out!!! I found a tear/small hole on the side of the condom 2 inches from the tip. I stopped sex after I ejaculated, tho he never reached orgasm. He says he's "clean"..then again, many do even tho they probably ain't so I always assume the person is POZ just to be safe. How risky was this stupid encounter????????? I feel so BAD this happened..and so does he.

Anyone with feedback on the above question?.... Small hole 2 inches from condom tip discovered after sex (tip of condom was fine). i was receiving partner (bottom) and guy did not ejaculate at all. He pulled out slowly after I came. Is there any need to worry about this? Accidents do happen but I'd like to know how risky this is.

Jeff,

Calm down. For a start, when condoms break during the act, they do so in a very noticable manner. You say this small hole was two inches from the tip and it sounds to me like it was torn when he took it off.

No matter when it tore, the tip of his penis and any precum he might have had was well behind latex and you would have been protected. Have a read through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can make sure both you and your top are using them correctly. A correctly used condom rarely breaks.

I wouldn't suggest testing over this specific incident, but anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Keep using those condoms!
