To Canuck and Dennis
« on: September 11, 2006, 08:26:28 pm »
I received a letter today from the Hotel Gouverneur Place Dupuis thanking us for selecting them as the "lodging facilities during your recent event AMG 06".

I went back and reviewed my notes, we booked a total of 21 rooms, but the more important number was we booked a total of 118 nights.  We also booked 2 conference rooms (Ric and Thom's wedding and Tim Horn's presentation).  Most members paid $125.00 per night, a few elected to upgrade to a higher level.  We spent some money in other words.

The letter went on to say:

"We sincerely hope that our services gave you entire satisfaction."

Clanuck you pushed strongly for this particular hotel and you couldn't have made a better choice as far as I'm concerned.  In either location or amenities.  Dennis, without your professional help we would not have gotten the rate we did.

The quality of the hotel, the beautiful views from the rooms (see attachment below), the level of service we got, all of that for $125.00 (cad)?  I can't imagine we'll ever find that kind of bargain again.

I feel you two didn't just hit the ball, I think both of you hit a home run.

THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!

RAB   ;D

P.S.  They have invited us back!   ::)  This despite the fact that security had to go to the 14th floor 4 times on one night (3 times to Jan, once to Aztecan)  (I knew the 14th floor was going to be trouble--I just knew it!   ;))

God what a memory we shared!

Oh pshhhh, Hiya Rocky! I forgot all about that pic of the cruddy little (hourly rate) hotel we took. We were gonna try to convince folks that this was our Hotel ;D ;D ;D
Thanx for that light moment in the midst of all this angst.

I would also like to chime in my own words of praise for both Claude, and Dennis. I have only spoken with Dennis over the phone, but I am still holding out hope to meet him in person one day too.
Claude was a consumate ambassador. He is a really warm, and lovely man who cannot bear to see people in conflict. He is a great mother-hen. ;D I am most pleased to be considered worthy of their time, and attention.

I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world.

overall i was happy with the accomodations, but I was not happy with some of the treatment received from some of the evening staff... notably that somebody who i never even saw who randomly walked into the hotel (probably a guest) thought i was accosting him by what the security said.  I never even saw this person and was merely persecuted because of my attire and that i was hugging on a boy.   This is how much homophobia runs rampant even in a 'gayish' neighborhood.

*continued in moffie's living with thread/crossposted with more detail*

I very much commend those who arranged the events and rates for the hotel.   I was truly happy with it (even though I didn't spend a single night in my own room :P )

It was my pleasure everyone!

Dingo - Sorry for the treatment you received at the hotel.  I have had personal friends stay there almost year after year during the Black and Blue Festival and they never once mentioned any kind of discrimination from the hotel staff.  Surely, if I had received any negative feedback regarding this hotel (or any hotel the group might be considering) I would definitely bring that to the groups attention.  I would definitely recommend writing a letter to the GM as this is the only way incidents such as this can be avoided to happening to someoe else during their stay.

I don't mean to lessen any of what Bailey said, but we received excellent service.  The Concierge made reservations for us at a Thai restaurant when I asked for a recommendation (it was very good, by the way).  Any other requests or questions were always handled professionally.  Except for a slow, gurgling toilet, pretty much everything and everybody was great.  Thanks for your work on the rates.  That's something we all appreciated.

Rocky and Lisa,

That is not funny. I had the misfortune of booking that hotel when I stayed in Montreal in 2004.

I got myself into a lot of trouble that night ( :o ;D) and had to quickly pack my bags and find another hotel the next day on the threat of violence to my person. Long story, and mostly of my own making.
I found it on the web where it promoted itself as a gorgeous little pensione in the heart of the Gay Village with wonderful views from each room. Turns out it was full of hookers and drug addicts and little ol' me. The hourly rate was steep. lol

Stop it now Rocky,
I'm gonna have nightmares about this tonight, in between the wet dreams of course  ;D ::)

I was hoodwinked. This is what the website says:

"Hotel Ste-Catherine welcomes you to our establishment where tranquility, quality and comfort prevail.

Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, near all tourist attractions, Hotel Ste-Catherine offers a vast selection of bright and spacious rooms with exceptional views. In able to facilitate your traveling needs, we are situated next to all major public transports and offer free public parking space. You will find an unlimited choice of restaurants, bars, discotheques and cafés close to the Hotel.

Hotel Ste-Catherine takes into heart your needs and so makes it as our duty to offer you the best competitive rates and the finest quality in services."

Thankfully, someone has torched the place and it is temporarily shut

I agree.....I loved the hotel.  Especially the 28th floor room we had.
When I go back....and I will.  It'll be my hotel of choice for Montreal.

Dennis, you and Claude did a great job.  Overall, the hotel was very good.  The incident that Bailey is speaking of, while bothersome and uncalled for, was not that big of a deal.  I am the one that was standing out on the sidewalk with him.  I basically told the security "dudes" to take a flying leap, that nobody had done anything to any other guest at all.  You're right, though, a letter to the GM should be written.  In any case, it certainly doesn't overshadow the other aspects of the hotel that were excellent.

Thanks again,

Shane

Many thanks guys for the very kind words, and especially to Rocky for having initiated this thread. I'm really happy most attendees were satisfied with the location.

I still haven't posted my thoughts about the AMG in Montreal and don't intend to do it for the time being. There has been a very negative feeling '' floating around '' since we returned from Montreal and don't intend to get into this. I'm somewhat wondering now if I was the Montreal Ambassador or the Ambassador of Lust & Fornication in Montreal.  8)

Kidding aside folks, I have met great persons and this is what I will remember mostly from Montreal...( to be followed eventually )

Regards,

Claude aka The Canuck

Crash I did, but I need to remind those present that it was JEN & I who ventured out into the rain to try to buy beer after hours, and since we failed, we were FORCED to raid my mini bar to make a delicious punch, the "AMG Cocktail," the exact recipe of which I am currently researching...

OK guys, I just want you to know that I am pure as the driven snow. Never, repeat never, has hotel security come to my room - with the exception of that one night in Montreal.  ::)

Well, and that insignificant incident at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

Oh, and there was that little bit of difficulty at the hotel in Paris, but that wasn't my fault. That darn soccer (or football as they call it across the pond) team from Liverpool won the penant and, well, never mind.

Claude, I loved the hotel. Great choice. Dennis, kudos to you as well.

HUGS,

Mark
