Infected 3 months ago, co-infection?
« on: March 31, 2009, 04:57:57 am »
Dear all,

I am a stupid person who ignored all the warning signs. 25 year old male, single with serious mental problem.
I would like to let you know I live in Jakarta, Indonesia, in South East Asia.
Please help me determine what I should get tested with.
Previous to my HIV infection, I already had HSV1, HSV2, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a lot of HPV (pretty sure), and maybe Epstein Barr Virus as well. I had also been infected with Hepatitis A as a child.

On 30th December 2008, I got a blowjob from an older street prostitute.
She went too fast and grinded her teeth on my penis, resulting in some small scratches.
2 days later, the scratches developed IMPETIGO (some sort of bacterial infection).
I went to a doctor 4 days later and she gave me some antibiotics for the impetigo, but she also told me if the prostitute had HIV, you will get it too as Impetigo means there are open wounds/ulcers in her mouth.

So in less than 2 weeks I developed severe headache for 3 days with severe back pain, then sore throat that lasted for 2 weeks, then followed with myalgia on my right thigh for more than 1 week, then severe fever running down from my throat to my armpits then to my left stomach area (my guess is my spleen) and then down to my crotch, it was hell for more than 1 week. On the 5th week, I tested my CD4 and it was 444, then after that I felt burning sensation on my spine then I couldn;t sweat for about 3 weeks (neuropathy causes lack of sweat).
In that time, I lost about 12lbs of weight. I looked like a zombie.
Then I developed rash on my face for a week.
then my chest was full and painful, probably enlarged spleen.
It lasted for 2 months and now I get some severe pain in my heart area followed with numb lef tarm, I suspect I also have cardiovascular problem due to hiv (is it possible?) because I never had it before.

Now, I am 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure I have HIV and I will get tested.
But I also want to get tested for all other possible virus that may coinfect me.
Basically the prostitute's blood and saliva and probably other customers' semen were in her mouth and therefore entered my bloodstream.

This was stupid, I wasn't thinking and I had all the reasons not to do it.
The question is, what else should I get tested for other than HIV.
I know several:

HCV, HBV, Kaposi Sarcoma, Hodgkins(?) disease, Lymphoma (?)
Anything else?

Also, please let me know what to do after testing, Indonesia is a 3rd world country and it is difficult to get a reliable doctor and test lab.
I feel like a zombie, I look like a zombie, I know I am a zombie.
I had a bright future and a great family that I trew away just because I wanted to do something fun.

I also know there is no chance for a cure, so I told everyone how I screwed up my life and they all just said if only I came to them before I did something as stupid (I had small problems that I thought too great to handle, but now eclipsed by this tiny virus and the consequence)

How realistic is a cure?
« Reply #1 on: March 31, 2009, 05:26:14 am »
Dear all,

I have tried scouring the internet and some of the posts here.
I seriously feel hopeless.
This virus is so fragile, yet when it has entered our body, it completely takes it over.
It replicates like no other, and mutates like it's nobody's business. It's also really good at staying dormant.
The researchers who claim they are close to a cure either find out they are wrong or go missing (no more news online on some "leads")

So realistically, will there ever be a cure?
How far are we from it?

I am so sad that we all have this, I think this is the worst thing to have ever, to know that I did this to myself. Do you guys feel the same?
I had the education, warnings, etc about this virus and the one time I thought would be my last time (end of Dec 2008, sort of farewell act of stupidity as I hated 2008) I got this, now it's officially my last time as there will never be another chance again.
To think that I had so much to lose and so little to gain from that one act.. I think I am the stupidest person in the whole world..

Late,

I removed your thread from the Research forum and merged it with your thread here in the Am I Infected forum. This is the ONLY forum you should be posting in and you'd know that if you'd bothered to read the posting guidelines found in our Welcome Thread like you're supposed to. Do not post anywhere outside THIS thread again. Thank you for your cooperation.

Getting a blowjob, impetigo or no impetigo, is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has EVER been infected this way and you will not be the first.

You don't have hiv from getting a blowjob. Whatever is going on with you has NOTHING to do with hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Dear Ann,

Thank you very much for your reply and I apologize for not abiding to the regulations.

Actually, there were 3 doctors (skin & genital specialist) who told me about the possible hiv infection.
Don't you think infection is possible if she had ulcers/open wounds/bleeding gum/someone else's semen in her mouth?
Please be reminded that her teeth grinded against my penis foreskin (not circumsised) and therefore I had open wounds due to it.
I also thought blowjobs were safe and that's why I did it without thinking much.
I read on some websites (inclusing UCSF medical school) and said several findings (around 4 in a year) get hiv from insertive oral.

I also forgot to tell you that I have had swollen lymph nodes on my upper neck, armpits and thighs few days after the severe burning sensation and I still have them now (14th week).
I never had swollen lymph nodes ever, to my recollection at least.. And now they won't go away.
Basically I have all of the symptoms listed on wikipedia, the timing and length were exactly spot on as well.
I searched on wikipedia after I got the symptoms, not before (so it can be said my mind did not play a part in the symptoms showing up)
I have had 7 herpes outbreaks the past few weeks, usually I only get one in 2 months. And they are more severe than ever.
I had also been super sick due to those symptoms that lasted for almost 2 months, lost a lot of weight, and still feel weak all the time. Please also consider the super low CD4 count of 444 on week 6 that is very abnormal for a healthy person (above 1200 right?).
Please also bear in mind that I am of asian descent (I read somewhere that this group is the weakest against hiv and that's maybe why my symptoms were super agonizing).
I have gone through 3 dengue fevers, 3 typhoid fevers and they are nothing compared to the symptoms I told you (super painful and burning sensation on lymph areas and upper left stomach).
I will get tested for HIV tomorrow or the day after.
Please let me know if there is anything else I should get tested with (Hep B, hep C, anything else?)

If you think what I experienced had nothing to do with HIV, then do you know what I may have gotten infected with?
I want to get tested with that to be sure as well.
I am seriously puzzled by your answer as I already settled with having hiv.. (took me 3 months and I still can't bear the thought..)

Again I apologize if my posts are insensitive in any way. I never wish ill on anyone and I believe hiv is our problem either we have it or don't have it. I seriously hope the scientists can find a cure ASAP for everyone's sake. My prayers are with all of us.

Thank you once again.

As Ann has correctly advised you, you didn't have a risk of contracting HIV in the situations you've provided. If you are concerned about your symptoms work with your doctor.

Thanks Rapid Rod,

But again, I am confused. Can anyone tell me some other possibility other than hiv that gives out exactly the same symptoms as listed on wikipedia (reliable source, right?), with the correct time frames, and correct length of symptoms?
Tomorrow I will get tested for HIV, but I want to get tested for anything else I may have been infected with, just to save time and end these questions about what I really have.
Anyone has an idea what else I should get tested with other than hiv?

That is what your doctor is for. This is an HIV forum and you don't have HIV.

You don't seem to be listening to what has been said to you.

You did not have a risk for HIV. Getting a negative test result for HIV is assured since you didn't have a risk.

We cannot diagnose anything here. For any other concerns and symptoms you have you need to be talking with your doctor.

We've done whatever we can do for you here. HIV is not your problem.

Thanks RapidRod and Andy Velez.
I apologize for my stubbornness.

May I please ask one final question? A very hypothetical one:
Lets assume the lady has HIV and she had the worst oral/dental hygiene and she had herpes blister/ulcers, bleeding gum, a cut on her lips or she bit her tongue accidentally few minutes before the BJ that would cause some sort of bleeding.
Then assume I had open lessions (due to herpes or due to her teeth grinding against my foreskin) and my open lessions touched & rubbed against her open wound as well, resulting in her blood to rub against my open ulcers.
Would you still say there was 0% chance of hiv infection?

I initially thought blood would have the highest number of hiv virus and any contact with open wound would mean infection.
Anyway, just to let you know I just got tested less than an hour ago and will get the result by the end of the day.
I hope you guys are not pissed off at me, I just wanted to be sure.
No disrespect intended or aimed at anyone here, I actually appreciate what you all do.

late,

Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection, no matter what sort of worst-case scenarios you want to attach to it.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

And by the way, Wkipedia is NOT a reliable source of hiv information. Knock off surfing the web because where hiv is concerned, you'll get plenty of WRONG "information".

You didn't have a risk and it's time you got on with your life.
