Wrong movie - but not bad
« on: January 23, 2007, 05:31:16 am »
This is one of those dumb things that happen because you weren’t paying attention.
We went to see "Blood Diamond" Saturday nite, get the tickets, and I followed the others into the movie not paying attention.
Well, as it started it opened with Bruce Willis. I didn’t think he was in THIS movie? Then there was all this gang rap music, guys all tattooed up and drugs. Well I realized we were in the wrong movie.
We were in "Alpha Dog", the last movie I'd ever want to go to, even for free. I was going to have us all walk out but the movie was packed and I didn’t want to draw attention.

Then Sharon Stone was on screen in a part, so I thought maybe it might not be too bad. I just re watched Casino and she was so good in that. So this is a film of drugs, rap and kids selling drugs to each other. Lots of parties and drugs. And these kids are from So. Cal. well to do parents, for the most part.
I wont go into a big movie review, but it turns into a kidnapping of the 15 year old brother of one of the druggies.
At that point the movie became very interesting and kept my attention.
I thought I'd never do this but I'd recommend it.
Don’t be too put off by the first 20 min, it just builds the background of these drug kids, their home life and parents.
Sharon Stone was great but her part was way too small.
And the kidnapping just goes from a dumb idea to a terrible idea as the film goes on.
Alpha Dog, not bad at all. Shawn Hatosy and Ben Foster give great performances.
Justin Timberlake could have stayed at home. I wonder how he gets any parts?

I read about this one awhile back when it was being filmed, as a footnote to the superbowl 'wardrobe failure' crapola. I plan to see it just to see Justin Timberlake  as a tattooed drug dealer...
The movie is based more or less on actual events and another version of the story is used in the decidedly offbeat movie Chumscrubber

I once went intothe wrong movie too.I don't remember what I wanted to see, but I wound up watching the Man on The Moon. It was a movie about Andy Kaufmann, who I never really liked. Andy was played by Jim Carey, who I cannot stand. I was going to walk out as well, but figured it cost me nine bucks, so I might as well gve it a shot. Like your experience, I thought it was a good flick, and even gave me a new perspective on Any Kaufmann and his humor. As well as an appreciation (sort of) for Jim Carrey. I still don't like the two of them that much, but at least I have a better understanding of the because of that experience. So it was worth it.

The only thing I can do straight is shoot..
