Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Case of Sores and Condom Break

Dean Ann, Andy,

 I had sex with a sex worker (India) recently as a one-time experience. I did vaginal intercourse twice: first time on top and second time both ways. I doubled up both the times. At that time I had some inflammatory sores on my inner-thighs very close to the penis. These inflammations keep coming to me time to time whenever I am in a hot humid environment and they go away with creams like Zincoderm or Betanovate. which makes me believe that they are actually hot sores. They usually look like scratches i.e., a bit open and reddish. There is no blood flow though from these sores/inflammations. I have two questions regarding possibility of infection:

1. Was I a risk of infection due to the sores, especially during the second time when she was on the top thrushing?


2.  I wasn't sure if the condom had broke. It was difficult to ejaculate during the second time. So the sex worker took off my first condom on top and gave me a blow job and a I was sure that the condom didn't break during the first time since the cum did not leak out of the condom and there was sufficient to indicate any leaks. The second time however, she was on top of me for about 2 minutes of hard thrushing but I did not cum. Then she decided to go for a blow-job. I noticed that the condoms were sticking to my penis at that time and I am not sure if that indicates a possible break. She completed the inter-course with a handjob by removing the upper condom. When I came again there was no leakage of cum. Was there any breakage in the condom during the second time? The condoms were sticking quite close to the skin after she finished thrushing and this is what is worrying me.

Please let me know if I had any risk of infection. I tried looking up the forums but  could not get an answer on broken or torn condoms. I mean how can we tell if there were holes or rips in the condom when the cum is little. I wasn't aware of the water test earlier.

Saahir, if  your condoms had broken you would have known. When that happens it's not  about teeny weeny holes. The whole thing goes and it ends up looking like a hoop with fringe on your penis.

Nothing you are reporting put you at risk for HIV. However, "doubling" your condoms is not a good idea as that can actually cause breakage. Just one condom alone will give you the protection you need against the sexual transmission of HIV via vaginal or anal intercourse. Those are the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.

There's no need for testing in relation to the incident you are concerned about.
