Dear Inquirer,

I have a favorite TV show at the moment, but I never get to see it. Life gets in my way. It's Brother's and Sister's.

Thanks for asking...

Now GO TO BED! ;)

On network TV currently? That would be "Brothers & Sisters" followed by "Grey's Anatomy."

On cable (and of all time)? "The Sopranos" (a hundred times over -- I really think that show is magnificent).

How is it possible that I didn't even know the existence of this channel until right now? I feel so cheated of lots of crotch-watching. Catching up to do.

So Sherry, the hospital/medical shows that don't really do the blood-and-guts stuff -- "Scrubs" for example -- don't do it for you?

I was "ER" addict for years. Then they jumped the shark. Sad.

I have a few fave tv shows...back in the day, it was Batman, I use to want to be Batgirl, use to love her music too when she'd be riding the batcycle...Then sometimes I wanted to be Catwoman circa Eartha Kitt...And of course I loved and still loves the original Star Trek, I pretended I was Uhura.

In the present, I love all CSIs too..I also like Smallville, Nip/Tuck, WWE wrestling and The Sopranos.

Let's see:  as a kid - Lost in Space and Batman
These days I have no interest in violence or hetero love - so I havent turned on a network channel in years.  I do cable and I like medical shows (esp ones where people have weird diseases), Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs (Mike Rowe should be my husband), Forensic Files, and BBC's Cash in the Attic (Alistair Appleton should be my mistress).  I also like shows on Discovery HD Theater - anyone every sit down and watch Sunrise Earth? - just cameras filming a sunrise somewhere - very beautiful.

My all time favorite show was NYPD Blue, have seasons 1-4 on DVD, hopefully they get all 12 seasons out eventually.

Seinfeld
Law & Order SVU
Trauma Life In The ER
most anything on Discovery
most anything on Animal Planet

and I still like watching reruns of Judging Amy  :-\

     1.  Amazing Race...can't wait for the new season to start in February.
     2.  Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten's show on Food TV Network.)

Though not a TV show (though it briefly was aired on Discovery/Health)...I always download Dr. Joy Browne's podcasts from WOR in NYC.  The commercials are deleted so each of her three daily hours are 36 minutes each.  Listening to her psychology show and the callers are my 'pilot light' as I navigate this screwy world!  LOL!

Blasts from the past:

Do you CSI lovers really like CSI Miami? Why does Caruso, who I call Red always stand and look at  people from the side? Why is he wearing a black suit in Miami heat? Why does the mortician look like a whore? Why is the blond such a freaking idiot? Why are women on the show always trying to screw someone as grotesquely ugly as Red? How do they fit so many beautiful but moronic people on one show?
And why the fuck are driving around in a Hummer in Miami? We watch cause its so stupid. My favorite episode was when Red saved every from the tsunami. Could be the most idiotic show in the history of tv.

Not sure if it's been shown in America yet but the BBC documentary Planet Earth was absolutely incredible apart from that not a lot really television is pretty awful really! I quite like Scrubs everything else is crappy celebrity reality television.  Highlights include 'celebrity' fat camp, another one where they basically show 'celebrities' getting enemas (i'm really not joking) and not forgetting the one where they shove a load of people in a room for a few months give them too much alcohol and film it.

Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister (thanks for reminding me of those Tim; my copies of the books are in tatters from over-use)

If Brit mini-series count: Brideshead Revisted, Queer as Folk, and I, Claudius

Most of the HBO series: OZ, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, and of course The Sopranos

The West Wing (I'm glad Studio 60 got a mention, though I think it's Sorkin and Schlamme re-hashing the West Wing formula, but not to the same great effect).

Seinfeld, The Simpsons

Northern Exposure

LA Law

Three's Company

I used to watch every episode of Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place but I wouldn't really count them amongst my favorites

As a kid I loved Carl Sagan's Cosmos. It seems rather dated now.

Dallas and Dynasty (no one's mentioned these yet?!)

Probably a dozen more I'm forgetting now
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

Can't wait for American Idol to get going again!   I don't care much for the "audition" shows, but I do like it when they begin in earnest.

The only shows I care anything about are Nip/Tuck, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and Ugly Betty.

I watch TV Land a lot.   I still prefer Andy Griffith and Good Times to a lot of current programming.

Has anyone seen the new Showtime show "Dexter" about a fairly handsome and smart forensics expert in the field of gathering blood from crime scenes who happens to be a morally minded serial killer of serial killers?  It's pretty good...The Sopranos wasn't as good last season as previous years.  I like 24, it's well done, and also The Office, Scrubs and another fairly new show that's well done with Alec Baldwin, Tin Fey and Tracy Morgan called 30 Rock.  I'm the only person I know who watches and enjoy's Monk.

When I had my roommate Les (now deceased) we used to watch alot of British shows such as Masterpiece Theaters and Mystery Theater on public television which were very well done indeed...The "I Claudius" series was terrific, particulary when Caligula (played very aptly by John Hurt) was in power.  Others such as "Are you being served?" were cute.

I used to like Cheers, Wings, Frasier, Seinfeld, Taxi, M.A.S.H, Sex and the City, the X-Files and was also compelled to see Queer as Folk though it was poorly written, and growing up (I'm a dinosaur) we used to watch Ed Sullivan, 60 Minutes, Carol Burnett and Red Skeleton...My mom and grandmother used to watch Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights when I was too young to go out and somehow while sitting there bored to tears I knew that somewhere out there were living people.  :D

P.S...I also wanted to mention one of the great comedies ever I think- SCTV...I would roll on the floor with laughter from that show. It's never on my cable anymore.

I am so with Jody on the Monk and the Lawrence Welk thing!  I remember having to sit through that boring ass show as a kid myself!  My nephew also gave me some episodes of 'Dexter' for Christmas, so I plan to see what that's all about soon.

Another old fave:  Kids In The Hall

(Scott Thompson as Buddy, or Cathy with a 'C' and Kathy with a 'K'...and Tanya the Temp!)

I would also have to add my current Saturday morning kid's show that I watch with coffee:  Veggie Tales !

It is hilarious!  (Yes, I still watch cartoons and stuff.)

As I snobbishly flaunt in as many faces as possible as often as possible, I am not au courant regarding television programs because I use my TV for watching DVDs and VHS tapes.  I don't have cable and broadcast reception stinks (maybe it has something to do with the 60 foot steel electrical pole on the right corner sidewalk) so I live without.  I can't see I'm missing much.

One of my favorite shows of all time is "Green Acres."    Absurdism meets the sitcom.  The ongoing jokes with Lisa and Ebb always confounding poor old Oliver.  Hot cakes.  Arnold (and Fred and Doris) Ziffel.  Mr. Haney.  Ralph and Alf.  The closet doors.

Yet another Blockbuster rental prompted by AIDSmeds.

Thank god my mother detested Lawrence Welk and called him a Nazi.  We all grew up changing the channel before the show even came on.

SCTV!!  If reruns of SCTV were available I might watch TV again.

I have a couple favorite TV shows. I particularly liked these shows. because they stimulate the mind...

"Three's Company" and of course the very mind stimulating  "The Simple Life", with those incredible wondrous minds of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton...  :P

Just Kidding !!............................ :P :P :P :P

I like my comedy shows ( Comedy Channel) I like National Geographic, "Orange County Choppers"...Even though I don't know crap about motorcycles. I enjoy watching these guys fabricate and put the choppers together...( and the son is Hot) And all those home improvement shows. Or anything that can hopefully keep my interests for more than 3 minutes  !!

Thanks Jeffey, I watch that clip from time to time and giggle helplessly. I've sent it all my friends who've ever expressed an interest in writing.

Forgot to mention Frasier. Two chattering allusion-throwing psychiatrists-- what's not to like?

I was weirdly obsessed with Dawson's Creek at one point. I used to run around the apartment proclaiming to my roommates that it was "the summit of human achievement."

I hardly ever actually watch tv anymore but I'd have to say:

'Friends'

Easy watching. Never fails to make me laugh out loud and/or cry as and when needed. I have all the videos at home and when I knew I was coming to the uk for a couple of months/indefinitely I just had to treat myself to the dvd boxset to have here at my folks 'for a fix'. Am so glad I did too as its something I'm enjoying sharing with my folks!
