About a month ago i went to Vegas...while walking the strip at night (I was very drunk by the way), I ran into this prostitute who was in her car...she gave me oral sex (I had a condom on of course, it felt very tight though). I could not cum, so she gave me a hand job...I still couldn't cum, so I gave myself a hand job...finally i came..I tried to take the condom off but I couldn't because it was so tight...she kicked me out the car...so i walked about maybe 5 to 10 minutes to a casino where i found a bathroom. I took off the condom and cleaned my penis with toilet paper..I didn't see any signs of blood on the condom (I was very drunk so if there was some i might have missed it...but I don't think there was). I went back to my hotel (it was about 10 to 15 minutes walk...i think) I went back to my room i cleaned my penis with water...and then i think i took off my underwear off (I'm pretty sure i took my underwear off...i was so drunk it's hard to remember). Two or three hours later I took a shower..i cleaned my penis with soap and water). 19 days later I was so worried and went to the doctor and got tested for hiv and other std's..he said all the tests were negative...but i need to come back and get retested in 5 months...I told him my story and he said not to worry..that it would take a lot of blood and saliva to get infected.
I am aware that you can't get hiv from a hand job or saliva but I know you can get it if you're in contact with blood. What I am scared of is that saliva mixed with blood might have gotten into my underwear and some how gotten in contact with my penis.
What I want to know is:
Is the virus dead as soon as it comes in contact with my underwear or is it dead when the fluids are dry?

If hiv can't live long outside the body...why was this ruling approved?
Also if the fluids from my underwear touched the opening in my penis..how much blood would it take to get infected?
Everyone, I talked should i shouldn't worry about this incident at all..but I am still scared...I just want to know if I am safe...I will take the test again sooner or later but am terrified of a positive result...Please help me I can't eat or sleep i am so stressed and anxious all the time.
Also I have experienced some symptoms I feel like vomiting all the time..
I had a cough on and off for the last two months...I had 1 rash on my back (looked red slightly raised and a rash on one side of my neck that looked liked a hurricane..slightly raised red welts) I went to the Allergists she said It might be from all the anxiety and stress I have been experiencing

Is this the case for everyone?...because I read that the rash must be on both sides of the body...for instance if it was on one side of my neck but not the other...also had a rash on one side of my back but not the other..I also think I used a new body wash that day i never used.
PLEASE HELP ME...I AM GOING NUTS!!!

At no time were you ever at risk of contracting HIV in the situation you've provided.

If you're sick of reading something, quit reading it. As for the NYPD ruling, all I can say is those cops got away with blaming their infections on impossible scenarios. Such is the official, state-mandated ignorance and stigma surrounding hiv.
Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as during UNPROTECTED anal or vaginal intercourse. It is NOT transmitted through getting a blowjob, blood or no blood. Unless you're in the habit of punching people in the face before they blow you, there would not possibly be enough blood present to infect you, with or without a condom. You don't need a condom while getting blown to be safe from hiv. Really. No kidding.
There's no way on earth you would have been infected in the incident you describe. If you cannot accept that fact, the perhaps you should seek counseling to help you deal with your hiv phobia.

Thanks Ann for your response...I know I am being paranoid about this whole thing...I also agree with you about the cops..I think they just wanted to retire early...but why the courts would allow that I just don't know...with all the experts that probably testified in the case (not sure but that's what I would think). Also..If you can't get hiv from a blow job or your underwear...why doesn't the CDC make that clear to people...on their website it is stated that insertive fellatio is a risk (low risk, but still a risk)...and some experts on the website "body.com" agree..if they are extenuating circumstances (whatever that means). Also, I do not mean to be rude..but what are your credentials?..do you have a M.P.H.? I looked at your profile but didn't see anything...I am sorry for all the questions but i am really scared of this thing...to put my mind at ease I'll probably get another test sooner or later..just to make sure. Thanks. :)

Someone recently got put away in jail for spitting on a cop in one of the southern states, despite saliva not being an hiv transmission risk. As I said, such is the official, state-mandated ignorance and stigma surrounding hiv. Just because a person is a judge doesn't mean they don't have an unrealistic fear, coupled with outright ignorance, where hiv is concerned.
My credentials? I've been living with this virus for eleven years. I've done extensive reading into first-tier, peer-review, medical journal published studies. I was in a relationship with an hiv negative man for over eight years, during which we used condoms for intercourse but no barrier for oral, and he's still hiv negative. I, like thousands of other hiv positive people, hope that things in the States will change now Obama is about to take over the White House. We've had eight years of Abstinence Only under the Bush administration and what the CDC says in relation to hiv reflects that - Bush pays their paycheck. Unless you're in a monogamous man/woman relationship where you were both virgins at marriage, they want to make you sweat. Yep, unfortunately, it's as simple as that.

You weren't at risk when you got this blowjob. Really. If you were, we'd tell you. We're in the business of STOPPING the spread of hiv, not furthering it.

After your response, I have felt a lot better. I have stopped surfing the web regarding hiv (accept for coming to this site...if only to reassure myself that i am at no risk). My anxiety and stress has pretty much left me. I have also decided not to mess with sexual workers anymore..people probably have told you that before...but i sincerely mean that...Any way thanks for helping understand. James :)

In one of these cases a 60 year old man (Spitzer) got a blow job from a hooker in 1988 and contracted hiv.
Is this true? Where these cases ever proven? Am I still at risk? ???

No, the case was reported, but never proven, and insertive fellatio considered no risk for HIV infection (or as low a risk as science will allow). If insertive fellatio is a risk, so is kissing, and HIv is therefore not an infectious disease but a communicable one.
More to the point, it is absolutely not within the ability of this website to scour the net and disprove (or prove) things posted on other sites, even sites with solid reputations. Suffice it to say that I have researched the claims of HIV through insertive fellatio, and none of them have withstood scrutiny.
Moreover, the science of HIV transmission theory has advanced extremely far in the last ten years, and the article mentioned is not even available anymore online, nor is it searchable. Suffice it to say that patient report in cases like this is extremely suspect, and the overwhelming data (including the three long term serodiscordant couples studies) prove that oral sex, giving or receiving fellatio or cunnilingus, is not a testing situation insofar as HIV is concerned.
As Ann says, we are here to STOP the spread of HIV, not facilitate it. If we thought there was any calculable risk inkissing, insertive fellatio, cunnilingus, et al, we would say so.

James, I'm glad you were helped by the exchanges here. When you are writing, don't do it all in caps. That is considered "shouting" here.
Keep your condoms handy and use one everytime you have intercourse and you will be well protected sexually as far as HIV is concerned. And avoid mixing excessive drinking wiith casual sex. That is a dangerous combination which can impair your ability to make good decisions about safer sex guidelines.

when i was 21 years old..i had unprotected vaginal sex with a school mate..i remember then she was on her period...after that incident i got tested for hiv 4 times..1st time when i was 25..again at 26, 27 and recently in oct..I am 29...when i got tested at 25 is it possible that i had AIDS and therefore the hiv antibodies were no longer detectable...It's been 8 years from that incident and i am completely healthy..Can someone please advise. Thanks. ???

You ARE hiv negative. Once infected, a person will test positive on an antibody test, no matter how much time has elapsed.
You don't have hiv.
Keep using condoms and you'll stay hiv negative.

Even though..I tried to stop reading about hiv and sti's..before my anual exam in march..i can't seem to.

No, it doesn't change your situation.
Someone who has another active episode with an STD might be more vulnerable to acquiring HIV, but it will not make them more contagious in terms of passing HIV to someone else.
You are still worrying needlessly.
If you can't let go of this and get on with your life then maybe you need to see a counselor or other such professional to discuss why you are so stuck on this subject.
