Ni Hao! A scared guy from China, please help!!!
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:00:32 am »
Ni hao! I'm a student living in Beijing. Please forgive my broken English, I'm not fluent and now I'm so scared I almost stammer :'( .

One week ago tonight I had sex with a gay sex worker in Beijing. It was my first sexaul experience ever. I performed unprotected oral sex on him. It was pretty intense and lasted about five minutes. He didn't cum in my mouth but I DEFINITELY TASTED PRECUM. He gave me a blowjob as well. We had protected anal sex later with I being the top. He finished off on my hand. I didn't have any visible sores in my mouth, nor bleeding gums. But there was a small cut on my finger and there might be some invisible cuts in my mouth. I'm afraid they might have caused me an exposure.

I asked around on different Chinese forums and here's what they told me:

"Unprotected oral sex is a low-risk situation. The risk significantly increases if the insertive part is a MSM and even more if he's a sex worker."

Then I'm really scared. Now I'm experiencing symptoms like swollen lymph nodes and low fever, which make me all the more frightened. I regret it so much! I can't help weeping when I think of my parents...I plan to get tested at three weeks at local hosptal, or maybe buy a test  from internet or something. Do tests at THREE WEEKS after exposure yield any RELIABLE result?

I did my homework before posting this thread. I remembered our administrator Ann said: getting hiv throgh unprotected oral sex is like getting struck by a meteor...I kind of feel comforted when I saw this...but still I wish to hear your comments on my own case...please help...谢谢...you guys are great.

You did not have a risk as you used condoms for penetrative sex.

There have been no fewer than three separate serodiscordant couples studies (where one person is HIV positive, the other negative.) These couples were tracked for three. five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative vaginal and anal sex, but NO BARRIER at all for oral sex. Any kind of oral sex.

These studies yielded NO infections.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to HIV testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start.  As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine HIV tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV.  Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

Joe

Thank you, joe. So those symptoms...low fever and swollen lymph nodes...can be caused simply by my anxiety, right? Maybe I just touch them too often...I admit I've been obsessed with my lymph nodes these days. So I just stop being paranoiac and go on with my life? And please do answer my question about if tests results at three or FOUR weeks (using what we call forth-generation testing method in China, not sure what you call it in English)are reliable or at least can they rule out most infected cases?  I asked it not just for myself.
I'm sorry for any repeated work I've caused you. Thanks again.

Your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV, because you never had an exposure. You do not need testing.

Lag,

When there has actually been a risk (you didn't have a risk), the earliest one should test is at six weeks. This is with any type of test, including fourth generation. Any test must also be confirmed at three months - when there has been a risk. You did NOT have a risk.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Thank you, Ann and RapidRod for being so helpful. Your words have put my mind at ease at least a little. And after I forced myself to stop touching and feeling my lymph nodes, they do seem less swollen than before.... Maybe it's nothing after all. Anyway, I think I'm gonna get a test at six weeks, just as a regular test for a sexually active person, as you said. And there's a lot of confusion about oral sex here in my place.  I'll try to spread your words to as many people as possible to help them out.
