Shit People Say About AIDS
« on: February 06, 2012, 02:07:19 am »
Saw this on the poz.com homepage, and wanted to share it for those who missed it.  Rush is an idiot as usual.  Family Guy's "You've Got AIDS" song is sometimes hard to watch.  I actually enjoyed the Seinfeld episode where Kramer was bullied for not wearing an AIDS ribbon.

However, I always thought that episode was odd.  Kramer is doing the AIDS walk.  But, Elaine is trying to find the Sponge, obviously for unprotected sex.  And, her boyfriend tells her he has perfect blood tests and they end up shagging.  Just seemed so odd to have in the same episode, but I suppose they weren't making a safe-sex statement.  Or, maybe they were pointing out conflicting beliefs??

TnL

Thanks for posting in a thread. I saw this the other day on POZ and had to play it twice cuz I LOVE South Park and Cartman's just a howl.

I love the whole YouTube zoo of Shit People Say About X videos. Thanks to the Canadians who got the ball rolling.

I saw this on the homepage a few days ago too. I thought the satire pieces were out of place on there.  I love Family Guy and South Park, and dont find those offensive at all, mostly because both of those shows make fun of everything, and I am confident that they are not singling out us pozzies. I dont understand why Tina Fey made this either.  Its the hateful "christians" on this that really get under my skin.

Don't know why they included some comedy sketches. Tina Fey is damn right. And I love that Family Guy song, I don't feel offended by it at all. I actually plan to show it to a friend when I tell him I'm poz.

There's another scene about AIDS at another Family Guy episode, but I still find it very funny, because they know they go too far (hence the old man yelling "NOT OK!!"), it's on purpose:

Watch Tina again.  After reporting on a scientific finding that may produce onions, that do not make people cry, her punch line was: "Hey guys: AIDS, there's still a lot of people dying of AIDS.  Put the onion thing on the back burner and cure AIDS."  I think it's crucial for us pozzies to show our gratitude and respect for anyone who supports our community.  To me, it's very therapeutic to see support for our struggle on shows like SNL that have long sought to influence public perceptions.  We certainly can use all the help we can get.
